It's hard to tell if it's a consistency issue with the product, or just the typical terrible consistency among forum reviews.

a little of both I'm sure, not to mention some people are using the TBSE versoin. where as I end up with pairs that have been on shelvs for like years and years lol

Also listening to some Adele for the first time, and I have to say I see why people use her voice to judge mids! Her voice is a little to rich in upper mids for me, she starts with alot of upper mids, and the more power in her voice the higher the pitch it seems, but in a nice quiet song with softer vocals the rich intimate quality of her voice shines through! So I'm happy <3

Still she's no Linda Perhacs!

And also, as always the songs I DID not hear on radio are teh best ones on her 21 Album lol

A noteworthy point.

Some, perhaps a lot of people, develop strange brand and/or model loyalties and see and hear everything through their fanboy lenses and ears.

The way some people fetishize their favorite headphones (or anything for that matter) can be a bit weird at times, but these do sound pretty damn good for the money.

Anyone using the 100's with either the sansa clip+ or iphone 5?

Would SQ improve if I use the 100's with a fiio 6 when using the sansa or iphone 5?

With the Iphone 5..doubt it. Then supposedly the E6 might roll off the bass when the Iphone doesn't. The E5 is supposed to have way more roll off in the bass than the E6.

Have you seen the Nuforce Icon Mobile? It starts rolling off at 100hz. It's really funny. I'm ashamed to say I used that once. No wonder it sounded OK with the D2000!

The Clip+ might benefit from the E6, but i've never tried that combination. It's more than likely though that the Clip+ also has better extended bass than the E6.

My guess is that the Iphone 5 has more power output than the Clip+ and should most likely sound a bit better.

The Clip+ sounds a bit muffled and congested with the DJ100 when using stock pads. Not sure why. However I loved it with M50 pads..bizarre I know.

Took me about a year (and getting the ODAC) to realize how warm the Clip+ was.

I really need to try more portable amps. Should give the E7 another try..

EDIT:

Looks like the E5 is -3db at 20hz. The E6 is only down .75 at 20hz. So it looks like the bass roll-off on the E6 might not be audible.

I'm confused, is it a matter of consistency or are we talking about different headphones here?

- regular DJ 100
- DJ 100 TBSE
- DJ 100 TDSE
- DJ 200
- DJ 200 Custom Shop
- ...

Same SQ? Will this thread end like the «K701 vs Q701 » thread? At first, «no-non there’s no SQ difference, it’s just marketing bs, different branding, don’t buy the Q701, it's a rip-off» and then after 200 pages «of course there is a SQ difference, the Q has better lows, more body, etc. buy the Q, the improvement is worth the price! »?
Seriously, can’t the manufacturers make clear statements? And disclose detailled specifications, different tunings, pads, and what else?
That’s really annonying and not compliant with the consumers rights.

Has anyone done a serious comparison?

Other than SQ, you actually have a reason to get the DJ200/TBSE if you want the detachable cable.

The K's vs Q's vs Annie's... well... to quote someone else:

How AKG did this?  I dont really care.

THX.

The Tony Bennett version is supposedly discontinued. It's not listed on the Koss website. Of course theres another headphones they make that's not listed also, it's the UR-22v.

The DJ100, DJ200 and TBSE should all sound the same. Koss can punch me if i'm wrong, but they all use the same drivers. Any difference in sound COULD be due to the way the inside holes are drilled. I did think the TBSE sounded a tad different, but in the end I didn't mention anything because it sounded just how I always remembered the DJ100 to sound. The TBSE is the ONLY DJ100 i've had with the holes drilled straight to the metal. Does this have any role in what it sounds like? Possibly.

Someone here compared the TBSE and DJ100 side by side (I didn't) and found them slightly different. It could have been due to those holes and the way they're drilled.

I've had the K702 purchased in 2011 and then bought the Q701 expecting to return it immediately if it was just a new color change. Definitely different sounding. You can view the Q701 thread for my impressions. It's the first post in there. I love the Q701 and immediately sold the K702. There's quite a few people in there that had both at the same time.

Yes, some will prefer the K702, K701, Q701 or 65th Anniversary. The K701 and K702 are supposed to sound the same.

Nobody yet has confirmed if any K702s sound identical to the Q701. Perhaps AKG made a silent driver update in late 2011. If so we would have heard some impressions.

EDIT:

Someone posted a picture of their DJ100 that had holes drilled straight to the driver in the cups. My guess is that this version would sound 100% identical to the TBSE. I had a ton of DJ100s and none of them had the holes drilled to the metal. Maybe this increases treble presence just a tad.

Thank u for the comparison tead smily_headphones1.gif

Don't get me wrong but do you realize that almost your entire post is written on the conditional tense and is based on hypothesis or vague souvenirs?
"should all sound the same", "supposedly discontinued", "if i'm wrong", "difference in sound COULD be due to" , "a tad different", "sounded just how I always remembered", "any role in what it sounds like? Possibly.", "found them slightly different", "could have been due to those holes".

What I was saying is that Koss [and others] should take a stand and be definitive on this subject.
Jeez...! Is it that hard for them to inform the customers so that they can make a purchase decision based on facts and not on forums rumors?! rolleyes.gif
Imagine

Oh wait... I get it, nobody - exept a few nevrotic audiophiles - gives a shizzle. The only thing that matters for 95% of the buyers is the design and the color.
With to much technical informations the consumer would be confused and eventually buy nothing.

To be fair, even Sennheiser mention nothing about their new HD800 revision. wink_face.gif

I am strongly considering pairing the 100's with a fiio E6 or E11.

The E6 is getting good reviews, whereas the E11 seems to get rave reviews.

So, what do you think of: DJ100 + (E6 or E11) + (Iphone 5 or Sansa Clip+) ?

I am really impressed with the reviews that this headphones get! Is it possible for 50-70$ headphones to be THAT good?! I know that good headphones cost money, and I think it can be really worth it... So I was dreaming about Senns HD25, and they are like 200$... Now when I got enough money to buy them I asked myself, what if I can get still good sound for like 120$, should I go for Koss ProDJ100 + FiiO E11, or should I go with Sennheiser HD25... I found some underrated Roland RH-300, they are like 180$, and there are not many review on internet, but people say they are pretty similar to M50, bit better and bit more flat. Here is the picture of them...

So should I go with Koss and FiiO? I just can't believe that so cheap headphones can be so good, I am concerned about build quality, materials, sound, it sound unreal that they are THAT good... Any opinion and advice would be very welcome... :)

Edit: And I mentioned to forget that I am seriously considering to go for Sony MDR-7506... So I think I could save a lot of money If i go with Koss or Sony, plus I could get FiiO amp (probably E11) and get few pads like M50s or Pearstone, depends from headphones I get... There are so many choices and good headphones I just don't know which way to goo... @_@

Oh wow, I was doing a 'quick' search for a carrying case for the dj100's and it turns out the TBSE is the way to go. So I might have to return the dj100's and order the TBSE's instead.

Also, it seems like a lot of you are enjoying the 100's with the m50 pad mod. Looks like I'll have to do that too.

I would just try out the DJ100 and if you don't like them go with something else. If you have a really good source then you might not need an amp. I imagine a decent sound card might be fine for them (as long as it's not onboard audio). Of course getting a Fiio E11 will improve any future headphone too. It's a bit warm, but doesn't really screw up the DJ100's sound.

The MDR-7506 is pretty good too, but I've always hated it's mid-bass hump. It also does better from portable players probably.

If you live in the USA a store called "Tuesday Morning" has them for $50. I have a local store and you can find a store location on their website. $50 for the TBSE is a steal! Even if they're discontinued Koss gives them a lifetime warranty. The TBSE is worth more, but I probably would never pay the original retail price of $150.

M50 pads are good, but make sure you store the headphones in the case when not in use because the pads can go hard after 6 months to a year.
