I would look into one of the all-in-one's from A-GD (Sparrow, NFB-12, FUN, NFB-5).  The HFI-780s don't require much amping, however, if in the future you get different cans, you'll be set.

Actually the new nfb-10se for $499 is by far the best value you can possibly get and it's in your price range.  I have the normal nfb-10 which was close to $1000 and I thought it was the best deal in headfi and then he just released a new version for half the price.  A very power amp that completely rocks, a nice DAC and connections for SE and balanced phones. (and it's actually true balanced not fake balanced like some amps).  No point in looking any further.

Awesome, I've been also looking at the difference between SS and tube amps, not trying to tread off topic, just thought I'd throw that in there.
