I have been using Adobe Audition CS5.5 for a few weeks now and I am totally impressed with it. Just to say "I am hard to impress". This is the best remastering software I have used to date and I love it to death. It is VST plugin compatable, but you really dont need VSTs in this. I love my VSTs but I use them minamally in Audition. It even has a 30 band EQ. The features are incredible but I do have a bone to pick. I dont like the fact that you can't open up multiple audio files and string them side by side to remaster an entire album. You have to remaster one song, then export it, then import the next song and reapply the last remastering settings rack to the file. It takes longer to do a whole album, but the sound quality is unsurpassed. I just got the ASIO4ALL v2.9 virtual sound card and started fiddling with it comparing how this handles a 20000hz wave and other frequencies compared to my laptops MME. I am using my old school Bell and Howell Schools O-scope to compare. I saw a difference in the sinewave, but it looks like the ASIO makes it louder by 10% or so. It is still up in the air which one is better. I see a little bit of noise or fuzz when I use the ASIO, but I am not sure if it is noise or if it is my O-scope messing with me. I guess I'll have to make identical tracks and just use my ears like always.

 

All that being said, does anyone else use AA CS5.5 and do you like it?

I only use ASIO for vocal recording with a backing track. It cuts latency way down so I don't have to time-sync it in post.

Anyway, I really miss all the output options from AA3 but the update is nice overall. I usually output to .wav and use Expression Encoder 4 Pro to convert to the other formats I use.

My favorite tools are the multiband compressor on vocals and the declipping filter for fixing blasted CDs... I'm talking mainstream albums that clip on some tracks.

Thanks for the input. I download FLAC files now and use AACS5.5 to remaster with. I was using Magix audio cleaning for years and AA blows it away. I still love Magix though. I have been using the ASIO4ALL 2.9 for some time and I am really impressed with the clarity of the mids, and the detail of the "air" and highs are brought about nicely.

 

My O-scope is analog so it doesnt lie, the ASIO handles sine waves in all spectrums perfectly. I will experiment with some extreme frequencies higher than 20kHz. I will post my results with some pics if they (the pictures) come out ok.

 

I love the normalize to -0.1db feature, and the repair DC offset and the clipping repair incase I go too far. I use the 20 band EQ and iZotope Ozone 4 VST plugin right now for remastering. The Ozone 4 is pretty awesome. Like I said I am hard to impress and AA CS5.5 is blowing me away every time.
