Can I use this subwoofer with my Audioengine A2?

Hi, I am very satisfied with my audioengines so far but it really lacks the punchy bass that my cheap old system had. I don't have enough money for a subwoofer right now so I thought maybe I could use the one that came with my old speaker system. I was going to reuse the cables but then I realized the cables that plugged into the subwoofer were attached to the speakers. I also noticed that the left and right speakers connect to the sub using different cables. It looks like i need a rca-rca and rca to what looks kinda like an s-video? Take a look. Also, if anyone knows what brand/model it is, that would be helpful as well. Here are pics of my subwoofer.

how do you have the A2 hooked up. if its the 3.5mm jack just buy a headphone splitter to send the signal from the computer to both the A2 and the sub

Oh i have a splitter but it seems cheap. It probably doesnt matter though right? Will I be able to hear any difference in quality from splitting the signal vs actually connecting it to the sub?

I dont think you really have a choice, but it should be fine

I was reading that someone was trying to pair these with the subwoofer from the Z-2300. The person said it was great as first, but realized that the subwoofer was really bringing down the A2s.

I actually use the z2300 sub with my system, and I know what they are talking about bass from these types of subs is overpowering and muddy. I dont know how your sub works but the z2300 has a bass control function so i usually put that on very low but put the volume on high that controls the bass pretty well. I dont think the A2 has a sub out so you cant really get a better sub as use a LFE port. You could get a better sub and hook up directly to that from computer then from sub to A2.

Normally when adding a sub you switch to a 2.1 setup.
The sub is connected to the source and inside the sub there is a crossover.
The low bass is done by the sub and the speakers are connected to the sub using the crossover so only do anything e.g.  > 80 Hz.
If you use a splitter both the sub and the A2 are doing the same bass.
Might be a bit too much

Thanks for the information. I'll probably hold out until I can get a decent sub. I don't even know how to connect the right speaker
