UPS Sucks! - Page 5

As I used to work for ups in Sweden (employed by a company that ups have hired due to lack of personnel, but still in their main terminal) I do know how things work. The packages are definitely put under a lot more strain if shipped by ground than by air, so chosing the express saver option if shipping international (or I between states if you live in the US) is something I would recommend if the package is fragile.

What most damaged packages have in common is that they are poorly packaged, so you need to make sure that the packaging is appropriate for the size and weight of whatever item you're shipping. There shouldn't be any "air" inside the package so that the item doesn't move around, destroying the actual packaging and perhaps the item itself. With proper packaging, which definitely isn't hard to achieve, the only threat towards whatever you're shipping should be random accidents, which almost never occur in my experience.

It's important to keep in mind that packages are never treated as if there was a pair of $1k headphones no matter how many stickers of FRAGILE you put on the box or no matter which parcel service you choose to use.

Didn't get to reply to this post in full earlier as I was busy.  Anyway, I don't think you know much about how the insurance industry operates from what I read.  FYI, denying claims is a part of any insurance company's "master-plan" for financial success.  Further, whether you use UPS directly or the UPS store; the same company processes the insurance claims - Crawford insurance.  Thanks for playing.

UPS, after stalling for a month, eventually denied my claim again (after they verbally promised to pay it).  Then the UPS store's manager invited me in to the store to "talk about it" and when I walked in I was met (or confronted) at the door with a very worked up Korean woman (the manager) and her husband, neither of whom spoke English (not much atleast).

They had a tape recorder running and tried yelling "you lying! you lying! -- you didn't buy these new, show us proof!" to try to get me to say that they were broken from the start (at least that's what I think they were trying to do -- still not sure what most of that gibberish was about).

Then they said to have some sympathy because if I take them to court they will force the young boy who packed my package to pay the sum out of his paycheck.

And then finally they said something about settling it outside of court by 1) forcing the young boy to pay me + 2) processing a warranty for the graphics cards that were broken and getting me new ones (is that even legal for them to do?)

It doesn't matter, I told them I don't have time to deal with this, signed a letter from their lawyer promising them I wouldn't sue and asked them not to make the little kid pay for anything.

I got my broken graphics cards and walked home.  It's been almost three months and it's finally over.

Sorry man.

You should have gotten the money, just not from the boy, even if it was his fault. Was he a little boy? Then definitely not but if he was an adult then yes. That was nice of you to have sympathy for the guy, but you didn't get the money you well deserved. I'd feel the same though, like it's been so long I don't want the money anymore, so at least it's over.

Maybe you should try fedex -- they care.  This was on my front porch a few years ago:

You should have gone to small claims court.  No need for a lawyer there.

That story about broken graphics cards is just... just not on.  Sucks..

Well Fedex sucks a bit too and I need somewhere to rant about it.

http://www.fedex.com/Tracking?action=track&tracknumbers=876731147576

I had customs reshelled at UM and they used Fedex to send it here in New Zealand.

Some stupid staff at Fedex China misread the address and labelled the destined country code as "NL" instead of "NZ". NL is Netherlands.

Tracking:

China - Kazakhstan - Germany - Netherlands - France - Netherlands - France - UK -...

Why are they so dumb...

Anyway I had to call Fedex NZ and they opened a case, it seems it's on it's way from UK to NZ.. such a waste of time, not really what's expected from Fedex.

Also I bought $220 IEM cables sent from a member in Canada, using Canada post's mail, but it hasn't arrived after more than 5 weeks.  I don't really trust Canada post now...  UPS and USPS actually have done much better for me in the past few years..

That thing is getting one hell of a tour.
