I LOVE Amazon & am a paying Amazon Prime member, but I really hate how they sell items as 'fulfilled by amazon.' From personal experience, it's misleading & gives consumers a false sense of security thinking they bought a genuine item from Amazon, when in fact it's just shipping from their warehouses. It's still considered sold through the third party (unauthorized seller.) All they do is ship Amazon their merchandise, and Amazon uses their warehouses to ship to customers. Westone even clearly calls out Crawfords Superstore on their website:

As far as the W4 sounding like the PFE, I read dfkt's comparison of the two. While I love dfkt's reviews & agree with him on about 99% of things, I just completely disagree with him about the 2 sounding pretty much the same. Personally, I think they sound very different. The PFE is more of an 'analytic' iem with emphasis on detail & clarity, but also sounding more one dimensional. Don't get me wrong, I love the PFEs, but personally, they sound more like an Ety ER4 than the Westones.
The W4 sounds much warmer to me. Less detail in the treble region, but much better instrument separation & much wider soundstage. Bass impact is much more powerful as well. They're very detailed & articulate, but I really wouldn't describe them as 'analytic.' They have a much warmer signature. Just my opinion though...
I love Amazon too and am also a paying Prime member. The benefits of 30 day return policy is what so highly attracts me to buy from "fulfilled" sellers.
Good catch on that Westone calling out Crawfords. I almost bought the W2 from them, instead I got the W4 from "Amazin Deals Online" through Amazon. Had I would have caught their $350 deal, I would have bought from Crawfords unknowingly. So, if it's not authorized, does that guarantee it's a fake? Or is there just a high chance that it could be one?
Well again, it's hard to put the PFE against the W4 if my W4 was bad. I swear it had to of been, because honestly, it wasn't all that good and I've tried a fair amount of IEMs in my days. PFE is slightly bright, but the W4 was even brighter and was actually fatiguing. For those who have both, if that's not true, I probably got a bad pair. A lemon? A fake? The real thing? Probably not, but I will never know. I still may get a Westone someday soon, because I LOVED it's design and accessories. Thinking the W2 this time around.
PFE's aren't quite my sound though. A tad less bright, a bit more warmth, more bass presence, and then things would be looking pretty good...
