Grado PS 500 Professional Series Headphone

Come one. Come all. It has been hard as hell keeping this one under tight lips, but I can finally spit it out:) I was lucky enough to visit Grado Labs this summer to take a look at the new PS 500 headphone and listen to it briefly. It is very similar to the PS-1 we loved so much. I have not had a chance to compare it to my PS-1 yet, but you are guaranteed to hear my thoughts once I do. It uses the same wooden inner cup like the PS1000/HF1/HF2. It will have the new finish that the SR325is has. Not the Chrome or Satin Silver of the PS1000 but a powder coated in grey finish. No specs as of yet but obviously it will have similiar to all the other Grado phones. I will take better pictures once they arrive in the shop but for now this is all I have.

Retail is set at $595 with free 2nd day UPS included.

Preorders will begin now and can be ordered HERE

Eagerly awaiting your impressions Drew. IMO the PS-1 is the finest headphone Grado ever made.

Don't get too excited guys. It's probably an HF-2 with a different engraving.

I've always been curious about the HF-2. Unfortunately I just can't get past the HEAD-F1 engraving blemish. Hope it's at least as good as what the HF-2 is reported to be. The PS500 could be a more suitable companion to the LCD-2 for me than the HD650 if that's the case.

TONEaudio's pair has a chrome finish...

EDIT: I just got in touch with Jeff at TONEaudio, and he confirmed that the grey powder coat will be the finish on the shipping pairs. The review model (models?) feature the plated finish. Jeff said that Grado was unable to find a plating supplier to do the finish to the level they desired, so the powder coat was chosen.

Not even released and already there are different versions?  Plated PS500s could be the holy grail of Grado headphones.
