Well I gave it a chance and it is a huge improvement. Unfortunately as I feared, it's just not enough power for me. I am thinking of adding an Icon HDP Amp for more power.

 

Can the Digital Coax OUT on the Icon iDo plug directly into the ICON HDP's Digital Coax IN and utilize the higher quality DAC and much more powerful AMP in the HDP?

I'm not sure what you mean, but any iDevice connected to the iDo acts as "the transport" while the iDo acts as the DAC (or the S/PDIF converter for another DAC connected to the coax output).  This lets you replace the laptop or CD player as the transport by using the iDevice instead.  I tend to think of the DAC as source, and the thing holding the music as the transport (like iPod, iPad, laptop, CD, DVD).

 

I have said before, this works great with iPhone 5 or iPad with a lightning USB cable, not just older iPods with 30-pin dock cables.  I select the music on the iPad and it comes out of the iDo, through either 1/8" jack or RCA jacks, or digital coax jack.
