What Sounds Good

In the past two months I've owed a Headroom Max, MG Head OTL, iPod and Airhead. I bought the Max thinking it would be the best. Well it was awesome. I the purchased a MG Head OTL. TME (to my ears) this gave me about 7-8/10ths performance of the Max. So I (my wife) did the math. MG Head OTL $320 Max $1600. I sent the Max back. I miss the Max it was truly a much superior amp. Detail, this amp had so much detail. Now I believe the processor I disliked was a plus. Much less fatigue with the Max. I don't care what anybody says tube can beat you up.
I lost my train of thought there. I've been upstairs listening to my iPod with Airhead and Grado SR-60's and not feeling as if I was missing anything. It Just sounded good.

This is what's known as diminishing returns. You need to spend 2ce again as much just to get a 10% improvement. You have to decide (a) what you want (minimum level of performance); (b) whether or not you can afford it.

I also agree with diminishing returns, but even if paying 2x as much for a %10 improvement seems crazy, it might not actuallly be. It could just be a really big %10. Example: %10 of 1 is .1. %10 of 10,000,000,000 is 1,000,000,000. (kind of drastic, but you get my point) The fact of the matter is, you are going to miss that %10 if you hear it, so don't go and listen to anything way out of your price range when shopping for new gear. If you don't plan on buying anytrhing though, by all means listen

I get the same feeling when listening to my iPod and the Ety ER6s.......hell, I get that feeling when I'm listening to the iPod and a pair of $15.99 Sony earbuds. I just get lost in the music; and that's what I think it's all about, lextek......the music!

I agree with Joe! I don't mind listening to music through my cheapie Panasonic came-with-the-cdplayer headphones because what I mostly care about is the music...
