E5c filter replacement??

Hello all

I just recieved a used pair of e5s. I had a problem with one of the filters (left channel, a small piece of wax type paper, unlike the er4s variety). I pulled it out with a needle, and the left channels sound then became unmuffled.

I assume not to walk around without a filter, so I won't use them until I have a solution. Has anyone replaced the filter, what part do i need, where do i find it (shure won't be contacted until monday but just curious if i can find info here)

And anyways, they do sound great !!! Way different then the er4s, very cool.

The E5 or E5c do not even use filters. Are you sure? It sounds like you are talking about the sticky paper filoter used on the E2 series.

That's what I was thinking, but maybe mjg accidently removed part of the headphone or there was some freaky piece of paper inside...

Here's a link to buy the e2c wax guards

The e2c wax guards are kind of this tiny sticky wire mesh thing...

its definatly osme sort of filter
i mean if you take off the ear piece (whatever one your using), the only sperating the hole you see from the cavity of the driver is this piece of wax that is removable if u poke it out with a needle. My left driver sounded funny until i removed it. Its still in my right driver. It's definatly made of WAX.

Check for yourself?

In any even, you huys say with no protection for the internal part of the headphone (no wax), which is normal, i should be OK using these?

hmm i just read the manual...

There is a possibility (gross) that it was just wax after all!!

wouldn't it be yellowish and not white.

Sorry, but ewwwwwww. That's very possible. Eww.

mjg: There is an acoustic damper in the nozzle of the E5/E5c. It's a tiny metal tube with a piece of fabric pressed into one of the ends. It serves two purposes: keeps wax out, and contours the sound.

If you feel that yours is damaged, you can always send it into service for a filter replacement. If it's under warranty it will be free.

hey sugarfried,

oh boy that sucks. So when i pulled out the fabric, i may have damaged it then? It actually made it sound normal without the fabric in it. Hopefully it reminds under warranty. I'll find out monday sometime.
