Shame, because I would add a pair to the collection if I liked them. I have headphones from all the other major manufacturers.

Don't let that stop you if you like the sound. Buy what sounds good to you - try a few pairs before you buy if possible.

I've had the same experience.  Had the Edition 9's a couple years back, and tried both the Pro 900 and the Edition 8 in my current setup.  With the Edition 8 I thought I had finally found an Ultrasone I could enjoy.  That experience was short lived after a few more listening sessions which confirmed my previous forays with the brand.  I am now pretty much sworn off the brand at this point.  I feel like I could write a version of green eggs and ham at this point with Ultrasone's offerings.

just read some of poe's prose and I was inspired to write myself.  Here goes, Green Eggs and Ham- the Ultrasone version

I would not like them being amped

I would not like them kees'd or damped

I do not like them with rock or jazz

I do not like them with any music I has.

It butchered Bruch and strangled Strauss

It pillaged my wife and raped my house

Its like a cruel vending machine

that dashes hopes and shatters dreams

but invariably you put in money "just one more time"

because it can't possibly exist just to squeeze out your last dime

you think I'll try both tubes and solid state,

I'll burn in and balance and braid it in eight,

but its futile as trying to sautee fake fruit

I'm going for stats and giving these the boot

I would not like it if it cost a pittance

But at its price sayonara and good riddance.

Nice one! I laughed because I've been there.

LMAO...Outstanding indeed....beerchug.gif

You should change your profile then Radio_head.  It shows currently owning Ed.8s and "headphones that will be missed"-- Ed.9s.....

Don't want to give peeps wrong impressions....Glad to see you have found the end all be all with LCD-2s...

Enjoy sir...!!!

my end all is actually the 007 mk1 (or the 009 although I haven't had the chance to try them yet) with the bhse, but... many priorities before that.

Still have the Edition 8's (LEs), I'm either selling or giving to a relative who has been eyeing them.  The 9's are missed because they were nice jewelry.  And it's not like they were utterly worthless, they were just like the wild girl who you have a fling with in college, a whirlwind tempest of a relationship - but she's not a keeper.  When you find one with longterm stability, who is genuine and has depth, then you can finally settle down.

The 007 mk1 is good, but doesn't have what a bassy closed headphone could do with mainstream beat oriented music. It's a bit dull with that kind of stuff and the LCD is even more dull.

Ultrasones were used in the Glee Project, iirc.

I play and listen to Classical music and Jazz more than anything at this point, although I enjoy certain types of rock and folk as well.  A stax rig for the former and a LCD-2/BA for the latter would be a decent goal after other more pressing things are attended to.

You're right, the PL/Pro-650 are in away the most balanced hps from Ultrasones, but still the bass is very punchy and this help a lot, as well the sound stage with the S-logic is great for a close design.

I've only had the Zino and Pro 900, but they were two of my least favorite full sized I've ever tried.

for full size, easy to drive, which are your two favorites?

You could add the HFI-680 to the more balanced Ultrasones as well.
