It's also the same price as the ED8...
Never in my life have I ever seen them for less than $1200. Even used ones are usually $1050.

I've always had a soft spot for Ultrasone's products, but I really don't like them as a company. With these they seem to be taking a rather... interesting direction. I would have thought a medium between the PRO and Edition lines would logically command a price somewhere in the $700 to $1000 range. But no! These are the cost of the non-limited Edition 8s.
My only guess is that they see the Edition 8 as a portable Edition headphone, and therefore feel an overlap is acceptable. As in, the Signature Pro now stands as the home-use model positioned between the 2900 PRO and the Edition 10. Based on that logic however the Signature Pro should sound better than the Edition 8. The similarity in cost would then be a premium you're paying for portability with the Ed 8.
But then Ultrasone has always had a deep seated hatred for all things logical.
Um. Speculation aside, I do rather like the understated look of these.
Oh, and I've personally never seen an Edition 8 NEW at a grand or lower. Care to provide a link to this retailer?
I can't because its below msrp, but i can assure you they are cheaper... I purchased mine for substantially lower than 1k.
new and from an authorized dealer*
Ask for price quotes dont go by advertised prices**
I also paid w/ cash so that might have dropped the price, but even so still cheaper than 1k***
Talked to someone at Ultrasone, and she said that these wont be out until next month despite their website listing it as available now.
Would have been nice for them to put that on the product info page for anyone buying it, you know, ahead of time. Just another example of Ultrasone's thinking of the customer. /sarcasm.
Thank you for that site Radio Head. I just asked them for a quote on a few headphones, we'll see what they say.
So. These have gone from $1,499 to $1,299 on Ultrasone's webstore.
That makes more sense 'cos in Japan, they've been taking orders for the Signatures for Y99,000 (and usually Japan is more expensive than others).
They're in stock @ Moon Audio.
Anyone bitten the bullet yet?
I wonder if it's actually in stock and on hand at Moon Audio, or if that's simply a pre-order? Talking to someone at Ultrasone, she told me these wont be out until next month.
Good point, Moon lists the LCD3 as "in stock" as well, and I bet that the day after release, they have between 0 and 0 pairs on hand.
It may just be that they are accepting orders.
Yeah, that makes sense.
I may try these out if they sound enough like the Edition 9. I prefer the 9 to the Edition 8 now, but my pair was previously owned by a smoker, and despite chemical treatments, changing the pads, scrubbing, etc. I still to this day can't get the smell out of them. It would be nice to have a similar sounding, fresh pair of cans.
Just a heads up on the Signature Pro for Aussie head-fiers ~ Addicted to Audio in Melbourne are taking orders as the Ultrasone distributor for Australia
A demo unit should be available for audition for anyone who can make it into the store
