For a portable gym rig with a premium portable amp, I highly recommend the V-Moda Verza as it pairs incredibly well with my Sig DJ.

I found the Fostex HP-P1 to be good with the Sig Pro but less good than the original CLAS feeding an ALO RX Mk2 via a Nordost iKable.

There is a new SIG PRO on EBAY in Germany price still looks promising. 317 Euro. 25 bids. The guy went for IEM instead.

Are these very good headphones? Are they demanding of ancillary equipment or would I be able to get away with something like the Audinist amps to drive them?

They even sound quite good straight out of an Ipod or Walkman. But good amping always helps.

Do they benefit from a really good amplifier or are they the kind of headphones that don't really scale up beyond a certain point?

IMO SP does not need any specific amp buy tube amp matches well with ultrasones generally and with the sig pro especially. Nevertheless SP is far more sensitive to the source and mastering/mix of the music itself. Good recordings and a smooth and euphonic DAC help this ultra some to shine.

My Meier Audio Stepdance is a quite good solid state portable. And it improves a lot in bass reproduction and detail refinement. It is quite neutral and does not alter the sound. But that is fine with me, as the phone itself sounds perfect already.

I note that a lot of people seem to be using them as portable cans. Is that what they're intended for? I was planning to use them as home headphones only.

I use it only at home too :)

@pietcux : I've purchased a Meier Corda Jazz these last days and received it yesterday ;) ...For sure I can feel a better bass control and more refined sound too  but for example, my senn HD580 which is a well kwown harder headphone to drive benefits a lot more from my new amp.

Make sure you are happy with the comfort. They are meant to isolate, so clamp harder than other HQ headphones.

Man I cannot wait to get mines.  I've been doing research on headphones for the past two months thinking which headphone to buy for my likes.  These and the Signature Dj came up on top of my list!

You will not be disappointed with either!

Fully recommend both!

Based on all the reviews, there aren't enough positives to say about these in every department.  I guess you get for what you pay for.  Me, personally, I am tired of spending money on sub-par headphones and just get the premium and settle with it.

Hi Sorrodje, nice amp you got. And the price is very tempting. Could you already check out the crossfeed feature? The Stepdance is lacking it. I have some albums that could need such a feature on headphones.
