These are both great posts. I love 'em.

Bill, I think people here will give you the best answer if you can give them an idea of what you are looking for in an IC - what are you looking for the IC to do for you? As noted in other discussions the "sound" of a cable can be subtle. So what are you trying to do:

- lower interference?
- tighten bass response?
- add warmth?
- increase treble transparency?
- reduce bass bloom ("go dry")
- decrease treble sibilance?

Let them know what your system is doing now, and how you want to change it. Some cables sound different than others and they can be used to just give a bump to the system in the direction wanted. For instance, I'm trying a pair of Outlaw PCA's. In my system, Parasound D/A to Stax SRA-14S, they are warm, good midrange with a subtle rolloff and darkening of the high to very high frequencies. "Euphonic" the old term was, they are "mellow". They are nice but I prefer more "neutral" and "open" and am looking forward to switching out to a pair of Cardas Neutral Reference, but in the meantime the Outlaws aren't unlistenable by any stretch. However, if your system is "bright" these babies are just the ticket to give you the icing on your system cake which you might be looking for.

Talk to them; they have been playing around with a lot of new stuff, it seems, and can really help you.

Damn Snake...your assumption that I can tell the sublte differences in incorrect. I have a very unsophisticated ear. I'm not sure that I would be able to answer any of your questions. Maybe you can tell with my recent playlist

Telarc's 1812 (my new love)
Nick Drake, Pink Moon
Radiohead, Bends
Toots and the Maytals, Anthology
Pink Floyd, The Final Cut
Eleni Mandell, Maybe Yes
Elgar, Cello Concerto on EMI
Big Lebowski Soundtrack
Grateful Dead live shows
Garcia Grisman shows.

and some other random stuff.

can this answer your questions.

I'm just not sure where to get an interconnect that will compliment my cans and amp.

If you are looking for a mini to mini 6" or so in length, don't be fooled, any will fit, I doubt anybody could hear any difference in a 6" IC (unless an ultra-crappy one) get any decent IC, from JMT or any DIYer and save the money for any other upgrade...

Since you have a Xin amp, is your mini-to-mini a Xin mini-to-mini? If so, you've likely already got that covered.

As far as your ears go, I see Radiohead, Pink Floyd and Grateful Dead on your playlist, all of which have a lot of great sound on them. So, don't sell your ears TOO short.

If your mini-to-mini is a $5.00 Radio Shack or Circuit City job, then do your ears a BIG FAVOR (not to mention getting the value from your CDP/amp investment) and at least spend $20.00 on a mini-to-mini from Headroom or a similar-to-better quality cable from a DIYer (such as JMT or Headsave). This is MY opinion, but its YOUR money. BTW, if you look at my signature, you can see that I am willing to put my money where my opinion is.

Bill: I found Jan's custom mini-to-minis made by Oehlbach to work very well - and I'm aquarius, too, if that helps. Info-link here: http://home.t-online.de/home/meier-audio/cables.htm

Depending where you live (or if you care about shipping costs) there are a few guys here that make kick ass IC's that look and sound better than alot of the consumer stuff out there.
