Hi,

Like the title said im a noob on setting up a receiver let alone connect it to my pc.

I just notice last night that i have a old Sony STR-D865 receiver from way back when. I been thinking of hooking it up to my pc so i can run my stereo speaker. Now i dont know what to look for at the back or what kind of cable i need to get it connected.  Another question can i even connect my mp3 player on this? Im very clueless about receivers. thanks for all the help. if this is the wrong section please move it to the appropriate section.

here is the manual for the system:

There are two ways to go about this: first you can go from USB out to an external DAC, and then, from its RCA output, you can connect to a spare RCA tape input on the receiver, or you can go from USB to a USB to S/PDIF converter, and then, from its Toslink or coax output, you can connect to a spare digital input on your receiver, such as a DVD input. Usually the DVD inputs will accept 24/96 or even 24/192, while other digital inputs on your receiver may be limited to 16/48. One product which will allow either connection, as well as ADC for getting vinyl into your computer is the Creative Sound Blaster X-FI HD external sound card. This is as versatile an interface as I have found: and, it's cheap. Another product, which is getting great reviews for USB to coax or  Toslink S/PDIF conversion is the Musical Fidelity V-Link.

i have a azentech forte  (http://ncix.com/products/?sku=35596&vpn=AZTXFF7105551&manufacture=AuzenTech) and cant find where to connect the digital output.  I dont want to purchase another system or anything that will make me invest more money to what i have. I just need to connect the digital out to the receiver. Is this method be feasible? if yes where can i get a converter of some sort or  material to make it?

any positive response is welcome.

ty for the response.

i think the fiio D3 is what im looking for? can anyone confirm? is this more than enough to connect my receiver? Im such a noob i have no technical terms on what enough means to me. I just want my sound to better than my sflo2 /hd-25 combo. is any other converter better than this under 100? should i just go out and buy a new receiver that has Digital In, if there is such thing.

You can just leave DAC duties to that  Azentech forte and go with a 3.5mm to RCA cable to one of the analog inputs of that receiver
