Help with splicing

Hi! I am completely new to this. I have zero knowledge on this subject. I have a decent set of headphones I want to save. The wire for the right-side in the '3.5 mm jack housing' ????? broke (see first pic). I cut through the cover and tried to cut through the 'housing' but to no avail. I cut off the end off of a crappy ear bud set I have and spliced it on. Now both sides don't work. The headphone part has many twined wires while the ear bud part has one single wire. For each channel, there are two wires. One side I twined them together and the other side I left apart just to see what'll happen.                                                                                                                                                                        IMG_5473.JPGIMG_5475.JPGIMG_5476.JPG        Anyone have any suggestions? Or should I buy a new pair?

Thanks, Sean

Twisting the wires together will not help too much, you will need to do some soldering.

With that aside, in your case you will need to burn off the colored enamel coating on the wires before you can make the wires contact. That's why you are not hearing anything from those photos. Take a lighter and burn the tips off, it's quick and takes only a couple seconds to do.

But with all of the above said, I would recommend you go to a local electronics shop and buy a whole new 1/8" plug to make a cleaner fix.

Thanks, I did separate the wires, burned the color off them and spliced them back. I didn't solder because I wanted to see if it'll work first. It still doesn't work :( . If there is nothing else I can do, I might as well buy a new pair.

Are you sure the wires connected to the correct ones?

How much are your headphones worth? If not much then you can save the headache and buy a new set.

Yes I'm sure the wiring is correct. There not much. I figured it's worth at least trying to fix it. Thanks for help! I appreciate it :)
