been looking at computer speakers for months narrowed it down to klipsch promedia 2.1, logitech z623 and harmon kardon soundsticks series 3 and just cant choose only one i have found on display and tested was the klipsch and the volume knob crackled when you adjusted the volume which makes me worry because i hate that sound very much what would you guys recommend out of the 3 or anything else i dont know about would be used for mostly tv online, movies, games and some music and more than likely electronic dubstep trance and things like that with some occasional alternative, classical and heavy metal, will be running of my asus xonar dg 5.1 sound card thanks for your help and time :D

I have M-Audio's and love them, they aren't super pricey but sound good for my small office. I would find a local guitar center and test out some monitor's also, they are abit larger than what you are looking at now, but if you can afford the space the sound would be more accurate I think.

Hmm from what i gather those Promedias have decent SQ for the $$ but there appears to be a fatal design flaw/QC issue and peeps are reporting them dying but why not look into proper hifi bookshelf/subs? There are hifi speakers bought in the 70s still playing as we speak and look at it as an investment beerchug.gif

If u in the USA craiglist has lots of cheap stereo amps/avrs floating around that could get ya started w/o much hurt in there wallet wee~

To make things more confusing, aren't Edifiers considered one of the best 2.1/5.1 speakers for computer use?

computer speakers aren't great... go with monitors or passive speakers

Have you considered the audioengine a2s, ap4s and a5s? They all sound pretty darn good and if you like bass, you can add theie matching subwoofer, the s8.

I'd assume a pair of Audioengine A2s would perform better than any on your list - especially the "soundsticks" - the ones I heard at an Apple store sounded awful (imo).

another pair of active desktop speakers within your budget are the Swan D1080MkII 08

and then perhaps upgrade the soundcard too.

ok so how big are the polk speakers

the audioengines are sadly out of my price range because of the sub price and that the a2's are just under 200 and dont have much bass and with my games and music i listen to need some bass:S though if i had the money to play with i would grab the a5's adn s8 sub

as for the swan speakers wouldnt i need an amp to power them properly and how much bass would they have only found one test video of them and wasnt very good? and for upgrading the sound card i have the asus xonar dg 5.1 card and use it mainly for the headphone amp and dolby headphone for gaming with my razer carcharias headset when i have the extra money to upgrade it will be looking to the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16829271003 ht omega sound card

The polks are about 11" H x 7" W x 8-3/8" D and those Swans are active speakers so no need for external amp L3000.gif

I used to have the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 (mine died but only because I let my friends use it for a party and the subwoofer fell off a table, I have no idea why they put it on a table but that's what they told me) and I think it's a truly great speaker system for a computer. I use the Audioengine A5s now and they definitely sound better BUT if you have a need for bass, the Klipsch will be a better all around system for the price. The A5s + AS8 subwoofer would definitely sound better but you're looking at $700+ for this combo.

The Klipsch Promedias don't sound like your typical computer speakers at all, I've had scores of Logitech/Altec Lansing/Harman Kardon computer products over the years and the Promedia 2.1 is in a completely different league. With that said, the Audioengines are even better but in a totally different price range.

ok thanks so much for the help and info if i every get the money i will get the a5's and s8 but till then guess klipsch promedia 2.1 is the winner for my price range and space
