Noob DAC Question for Schiit Bitfrost

Alright, if I didn't want to use a USB input to transfer data, what is the other way? Because I know some amps are not USB powered. What if I wanted to use a iPod or something?

The Bitfrost is not usb powered either :P However if you do not want usb then looking at their product page shows they have optical and spdif inputs as well. You would not be able to use the ipod with this unless you had something like the algorhythm solo in between.

Alright, can you explain to me a little more about SPDIF & Optical while I'm researching? Thanks. biggrin.gif

Both SPDIF and Optical are digital audio cables. SPDIF is often found on dvd/cd players, whilie Optical inputs are a bit more modern and i assume your xbox has one (i know my playstation 3 has one).

People will recommend one digital cable type over another, but when the truth is told, there is close to non, if any, difference. So just use what you've got and don't worry as long as it is digital :)

Just so you don't continue to sound like a noob, it's "Bifrost," not Bitfrost. :P It's a Norse word, in line with the rest of their products.

Also - SPDIF is a digital interface, it stands for Sony Philips Digital Interface Format. Both RCA and TOS as normally outfitted are SPDIF, one is Fiber Optic the other (RCA) is suppose to be 75 Ohm Coaxial

Use Google it is your friend. Search for something like SPDIF basics and read about it. Expecting people here or elsewhere to answer questions that are easily answered by many FAQ's elsewhere is silly. Not to mention you'll get erroneous info (as above) by random answers.
