Hm801 Frimware upgrade delayed and "deleted" because complainers were being "too annoying"

Hi all,

For those of you who can read some Chinese, head off to erji.net and you would be able to find what I am here talking about.

The new firmware of hifiman hm801 0.20 was announced at about 4 weeks ago.  The technical engineer NanKai of Hifiman claimed to release this firmware in 2 weeks time.

This firmware was sucessfully upgraded and was installed in all newly produced hm801. However, for old users they are still not getting the upgrade pack of the new 0.20 firmware.

Today, after the firmware has been delayed for weeks, NanKai announced that the firmware are still not going to be released yet because those complainers in the forum are being "too critical".( In fact Nankai meant more when he said this in Chinese. The original word he used was saying that those complainers were "pushy" and  "annoying", or say, nasty.)

For what Nankai had said, he was challenged by many users.

Further more, Nankai started a new thread saying "if there could be more than 100 replies blaming those critical customers (difficult people), I would release the 0.20 firmware rightaway." And this thread was a real blast.

Later in Nankai's thread, he announced that  he had deleted the new firmware.

Dramatically, the new firmware was then released on the official site of Hifiman, by 22:03 +8time zone.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why I am putting this on HeadFi?  Because I think all of you guys, especially hifiman users should get to know this.

Sorry for my bad writting in English (;

Regards

That is no need to bring flaming threads from Erji.net to Head-Fi, especially when most have no idea what have happened over the last few weeks.

If you want to read, you should at least read back 5~6 pages back on all the firmware related discussions, then you'll get a better idea on what have happened. Still, I think most of them are counterproductive at best.

都为了争一口气,何必呢?

I have not read it yet. My friend told me in few words:

Some received new firmware, and bragged about it;

Some did not like the new firmware "bug", and complained about;

Some "Hifiman lovers" were "nasty" toward complainers;

Others also wanted new firmware, so they nicely asked for it, "eagerly" asked for it, begged for it; they were nicely answered, then "laughed" and "scorned" by .....

"Certain someone" smirked about it, shout back to whom "pushing and whinning" for new firmware;

Suddenly, new firmware was released.

I'll save you the time and tell you the short version of the story instead. It started a few weeks ago when Fang posted a thread in Head-Direct forum over at erji.net about a new firmware release in about 2 weeks, then the deadline was passed and the firmware was delayed without much information. Later, threads started to appear in erji.net's Head-Direct forum questioning the whereabouts of the promised firmware update, then eventually the tone becomes a little hostile with assumption / theory / claim being made on whether the so called firmware is a hoax or not (as a marketing trick). It basically became a mess when supporter of both sides began to attack each others. So when the firmware is finally ready, Fang started to tease the other party around with the firmware, which is somewhat backfired and started another wave of debate and attack (but from another view, the teasing is actually quite success). That's about it.

I uploaded version 0.20 a couple of days ago and it has been running fine on the HM801.

Arguing over firmware, really?

I have a HiFiMAN product but I think I'll just avoid this company in the future. . .

This is exactly why I consider thread like this being counterproductive. You'll reach conclusion without much of any detail of the story, and the story often is too difficult to explain without a culture class.
