One thing I do like is the direction they are headed. I am thinking this album is a precursor they had to get out of the way to really get into some stuff. They certainly put a lot of effort in with this one, and I am very interested to hear what comes next. I think their next album will be the one to watch out for.

 

As for Heritage though I would give it a 3 out of 5, 6 or 7 out of 10. It's good, but not up to their usual awesome jaw dropping quality.



I hope you're right and agree to that rating.

I'm not very enthiusiastic about the sound quality though, not really bad but not outstanding either.

Wow, really? Well, knowing that I can understand then, they should have devoted the whole album to Dio! Then made another one hehe. Yeah I enjoy Heritage OK I guess, but something just leaves me a little cold about it. Dunno what it is. Disjointedness maybe? I just relistened to Heritage and its still boring.  I found myself wanting to skip to the next track almost every song.  They're so slow and mellow with monotonous rhythms , Damnation is more interesting IMO.  Pretty big disappointment from one of my favorite bands.  Its like they're trying to sound disconnected.

Caught them last night in Houston. I think you summed the concert up nicely. I liked MA's professionalism along with the rest of the band. As much as some of the crowd wanted to start a pit, it just was not going to happen. ;)

I'm afraid that people who find the latest Opeth album boring and monotnous suffer from the information addiction syndrome. They feel bored whenever they are not bombarded with constant stream of information. The ability to focus [on music] is a thing of the past for many people, it seems.

 

You should calm down properly before you start your music listening session. Music should be the only thing on your mind - the only thing moving you when you listen to it. The ability to appreciate complex music is something that has to be acquired through practice. Lack of groove does not mean that such piece of music is boring. That's like saying jazz, tango or classical compositions listed below are boring.

Once Steve Wilson got involved with Opeth I just stopped caring. After Still Life they became so contrived and formulaic. Signing with Roadrunner marked their last and biggest mistake.

Gave Heritage a fair go and no dice. Just too damn boring for me. Guess I'll be go back to listening to A Fair Judgement on infinite loop.
