LCD-2 and Objective2. You'll have to wait for the next group buy on the PCB, then either build it yourself if you feel daring or order one from a builder like MrSlim here. Or you can wait for the dedicated desktop version to come out.

If you had more money maybe LCD-2's and a Burson 160D or you could just get the 160. HD650's and Woo 6?

Do you have headphones, or it is your first set of headphones?

Which kind of music you like?

$1,200? That's Stax money right there. You could easily get anything vintage, right up to the SRS-3170 if eBay prices are any indication (but the SRS-3170 setup goes over your budget due to the high $175 shipping cost; you might just score a better deal elsewhere).

I wonder if the SR-407 paired with something like the SRM-1/MK2 Pro would be a good setup to saturate the whole budget...hard to say when I've only heard a fraction of Stax equipment, but that electrostatic sound just might be right up your alley. If it isn't to your taste, I'm sure you'll find buyers here.
