Some OVERRATED High End Gear. - Page 20

I've noticed the same thing with AKG. Seems like once Harmon had their claws in deep it was just down hill. Their vintage stuff is amazing. Lol I say bring back made in Austria.

In terms of technology, then the LCD-2 is overrated (in price / popularity), if you can buy a $75 Fostex T50RP and mod it to sound close.

For the dynamic driver Tesla flux technology, you have to pay $1000, or $2000 even (TH900).

Naturally I have only listened briefly to all these high-end headphones, without experimenting with DAC/Amp, unlike googleli.

Man you're making me anxious to get my T90

sunfire sub for music. great for ht but rel will slaughter it on music imo. some people pair it with totl speakers and I am like yuck. I guess ill add polk subs too. of course this is probably preference though. plenty of people think sf and polk sound good. I just had subs on my mind this moment.

This is the sad attitude that's all too common with the portable generation.

But then all the shiit and all the other 'raved' US based brands are EXTREMELY overrated also then..as OMG..some of the owners of Shiit/emotiva and some other more budget brands are defended as if its the last thing u have to do in ur life...if i am not mistaken a thread was closed because such a debate about some brands..

So what is overrated? Whats the definition of that? To expensive? Bad performing? Dont have the performance the looks makes u believe it should have? What?

For everyone that word can mean totally different things...i have a feeling with that word u mean: performance not being ON PAR with the price it costs...so i will reply on that:

I believe no matter where the brand comes from..as long it kicks ass..its fine in my book..no matter the price...

Overrated is also a social word...EVERYONE who doesnt have big (enough) budget will almost automatically believe everything thats way beyond their pricerange is overrated..and they will listen to those products in that way. So those products will NEVER sound good enough for what they cost to those people as their brain tells them not to....i found out that ur brain messes with ur listening experience in a bigger way then u believe it would...

But more important..no matter what ur budget is...200usd or 7000 usd for an amp, 200usd or 1500usd for a headphone, most important thing is that u enjoy what u own and respect others who have more expensive or cheaper rigs then u..as that makes them happy also wink.gif

All IMHO ofcourse

Ps..saying that Chinese brands make inferior stuff is rubbish..many premium brands in almost every market have their products made in china..and the quality is topnotch. I had a Chinese made modded Darkvoice 337 for 2 years and i can tell u that the builtquality (inside! And outside) is just as high as same priced or even higher priced european/US based brands at a lower price. Only communication has to be improved big time..as that lacks.. tongue.gif

HUGE PS: sometimes that 'raving' is not raving at all..but hard truth! Even if it will sound TO GOOD to be true, even then u could be reading about something really special, no matter the price its in. But many times its all about mass placebo effect or just lack of experience for better quality products, that they rave about their products being the best u can get for what they cost..u know the stories biggrin.gif

Agreed. Even though I always consider buying American made first, that is primarily because I am trying to support American manufacturing sector that has taken a huge hit over last few years. While I think/hope we may be having a small manufacturing revival in some sectors Stateside, I also agree that American products tend to be are more expensive than comparable Chinese products, due to a number of factors that American companies cannot (currency value) do anything about or should not (labor cost) emulate. I also think that some Chinese companies have been increasingly making strides in the "high-end" sector over the last 5-10 years or so.

In any case, keeping with the topic of this thread, in relative terms, I believe that (unfortunately for us in the US) good deal of TOTL Chinese products would not be overrated.

My HE-6 are made in China and I've been a happy camper with all my correspondence and enjoyment. About the only thing that's a bit frustrating is Chinese New Year. But hey, I can't begrudge my brothers and sisters their well earned holidays. I had to wait two weeks to get my Hilo back this last holidays because they were shut down from Christmas through the new year. beerchug.gif

+1 on HE6. Love that HP!

While LCD3 IMHO is overrated. Just my opinion and preference. Still, it also seems that Audeze may have realized it, as their now flagship -- the X -- has been priced closer to the flagships from others.

+1 i agree..if u check certain headphone threads u will see that people owning lower end (price wise) amp stuff to drive that phone, who consider everything priced higher up a waste of money and waste of love..and its not only one or two who believe that..its a shipsfull of people...i guess its a human thingie, a sort of automatic defensive mechanism to protect ur own wallet wink.gif and protect those believes rather aggressively sometimes wink.gif
