Lifted pad on double sided PCB

I heated a small hole for a capacitor and lifted up the little metallic ring on the top of the PCB. The ring on the underside is totally in tact and connected to the trace. Did I screw anything up or am I fine? Thanks all.

 

EDIT: OK so it's a double sided PCB. There doesnt appear to be a trace running to this particular hole on the topside- though I gather there still could be a connection there? I'll do a bit of testing with the multimeter and come back.

Sounds like a battle wound, should be fine if you still have trace on the underside in tact.

I would say you are fine. I believe rings on the same side as your components are there so you can solder for more stability for components that have to endure physical stress. Like if you have a 1/4 headphone jack that will be tugged back and fourth, it will be more important for that, than say a capacitor that does not move.

Whew! Thanks guys. I have a feeling I should have built a few more kits before cracking open my main amp. I lifted a pad on the amp PCB as well, which is a brown thru-hole PCB. For that I scraped away a bit of the trace and soldered onto the copper.

 

Everything checks out for continuity on the multimeter so I guess I'm good. I installed 4 Sonicaps in my Decco. Here are some pics

I guess my iron (hakko fx888) was a bit hot for this board at 750F? The large chisel tip didn't help either. BTW I did wipe that debris off the boards.

 

EDIT: ****, is that another lifted pad on the amp? I never heated anything for more than 3-4 seconds.

I'm not sure about anyone else but I think 3-4 seconds of iron contact would be a bit too long. I normally just tap on the pad for 1 second max and the solder fills in just fine with flux.

I usually use about 550F on my Weller WES51.

I have never fried a trace even on a cheap Bravo/Indeed/Muse amp board.

Thanks for the tip on the DIP sockets John... Those would be nice for messing about with the DACs.
