From these two descriptions it seems like the JH13 and JH16 sound the same, lol.

The reason for the recommendation of the 8.A over the JH16 for hei629 is because of the top end.  My JH16 vs 8.A comparison is in this review, so that will hopefully help.

LOL. No accounting for taste. we all know 13s and 16s are far from the same. I guess it depend on if you think an ie800 is natural or bass enhanced. Just a note that the review is with the old jh version. Doesn't make the recommendation any worse.bigsmile_face.gif

I just think that miracles and 13s are closer to right, at least for me.

the IE800 has twice the amount of bass of my new JH16 and I call that bass heavy. JH16 is not bass heavy at all, but still they sound pretty boring, dry and analytical with no organic feelings. Should've gone for the 5way... I feel like wasting 1300 (with rush) dollars... No big improvement over my old JH13, really.

Viva la difference.bigsmile_face.gif I don't think a 16 is an improvement on a 13 nor meant to be. Just an alternative signature. These are old 16 graphs. The new one will be different but not radically as the changes are more about smoothing and phase than overall balance.

Seems you had issue with the 5 way as well. "But the problem is, the se-5way is not as good as somebody described here in this forum because for 1, they are heard to drive and for 2 the sound stage can be narrow sometimes and also the highs are tamed down a bit too much."

Doesn't sound like customs are for you any longer anyway.

"Even my old jh13 sounds much cleaner and with at least twice the head room than the es5, which I also used to own. I sold them all recently cuz none of them are as good as some of the top of the line universals nowadays."

Honestly. I wish I felt as you do and could have found that universal for me.

I have been logging time with the PP6 and if the Miracle is similar, mmmm.  The first time I heard the IE800 I was somewhat surprised by the sound signature, but it follows the IE series.  I guess I thought it would be more like the HD800.

Ouch.  Maybe the new JH16 doesn't have always enhanced bass like the old one.

Yes, the 16 and 13 are compliments; something for everyone so to speak!  It seems there is some variation on how people hear the 5-way, but it is true to the recording, so if the recording doesn't have space, it won't add it like most other CIEMs I own.  The sound signature is quite variable.

I have heard all the top tier universals and while I think they perform well, there are many CIEMs they just can't touch (in the same price range), at least to my ears.

It's understandable as you're speaking of the previous version. The 13 was everybody's target for years and the oldest of the top tiers so it was showing it's age a bit yet still competitive depending on preference. It's now revised for the better. We should keep to currently available products. I'm not saying that they are now better than your personal preferences, just that some of this discussion isn't relative to current product. My 13s are good enough to tell me more about my sources than themselves. If there's better, so be it but I'm good.bigsmile_face.gif I'm sure you are as well.bigsmile_face.gif

I am not commenting on products I haven't heard, just trying to figure out how the new product can be so different in sound signature and answer the question as it was asked.  I am a bit confused by your "personal preferences" comment, what did you mean?

Would you guys recommend the JH16 for pop / ballads / rock with female vocals ?
