Voice Chat while gaming

Hi guys (first post, don't eat me :s)

I've tried this on various hardware and gaming sites, and I assume they were the wrong place. I got no help at all.

I currently use a 5.1 speaker system for my game audio. All my friends want me to use Skype to talk while we play, and I have no microphone. They all say "get a gaming headset" but I like my speakers, and I've bought them - I want to use them.

What I'm looking for is a headset like the one that comes with the Xbox 360 (see here) to use in conjunction with my speakers (does this mean using USB?). I don't want them for game audio - I don't care if the sound isn't audiophile level. I want to hear my friends clearly and let them hear me and not my game sound.

I was looking at something like this but as you can see the reviews are *******ed awful.

One helpful person said about just using a clip on mic and using my speakers as voice output. Would you reccomend something like this? It wouldn't pick up game audio right?

Otherwise, I may have to get an actual surround headset and use that for chat+audio when my friends want me...

Thanks very much, and I hope you're of more help :P

What you need are two different sound devices-say, a sound card to drive your speakers and integrated sound to drive the headset, or if you insist on integrated sound to drive your speakers, a USB headset (since USB devices effectively have their own sound card/DAC).

Then what you do is set whatever's feeding your speakers to be the default device, and then set Skype or other voice chat apps to whatever's feeding your headset. This way, the speakers output your game audio and the headset only outputs voice chat.
