Stiff cables and poor sound? Did you double check to make sure they aren't fakes?

Your order will ship this week, so will yours Jinx.

Now I can't recall getting this worked up about a cable before...! Quite a few friends are curious to see it too...seeing as I've been blabbing on about it...biggrin.gif

The ie80 cable is quite a bit thicker than the ie8 cable.I was aware of this, the point has been made on a number of reviews. There were initial problems with getting the right ear piece cable to relax enough to enable a proper seal,24 hours in the grip of a clothes peg has fixed this.I've been listening to the ie80s in their original form for the past couple of hours, they sound fantastic!! The difference in sound in just five hours is incredible, exactly what I was hoping for.The HDP/Senn. combo works really well.I bought the Senns. from Amazon Germany, just under 220 euros, delivered to Spain. They're not fake,I was careful to avoid that one.Thanks.

I'm not so sure about that. I had both and don't recall the IE80 cable being any thicker. The material is slightly different but not that different IMO. The IE8 cable was more durable though due to the kevlar. Not sure if the IE80 cable is using kevlar.

Hi,The 80 cable is certainly a lot stiffer than the 8,at this point in time. The gauge of the 8 appears marginally smaller than the 80.I've had the   8s for 3/4 years,I don't recall them being anything like as rigid as the 80 cable.I certainly didn't have to wrestle with them to get a good seal, they feel very different.A number of reviews mention the cable difference, maybe I'm allowing those to cloud my view?! Either way,I'm listening to them as I write,I have no complaints!I'll be interested to hear what people think of the Toxic Cable upgrade,I read good things about their other products.

Thing is if you already find the IE80 cable rigid a silver cable is gonna be even worse. Not that I mind as it's quite sturdy and I like the sound quality improvements it brings.

I just received a brand new pair of IE80 from Sennheiser for replacing the old pair with broken cable. That cable didn't last long.

The stock cable seems wonderfully pliant compared to the Silver Galaxy cable!!

Good point about the silver cable. As I said,I'll be interested to hear what people think of the upgrade.I'm in the UK a couple of times a year,I can liaise with Toxic easy enough when the time comes.I'm thinking of taking the ear mold route as well, that would certainly help.I doubt I'll have problems with the durability of the present cable,I use them as part of a desk top system.I tried going with full sized headphones, far prefer IEMs.It was my bedtime a couple of hours back, can't drag myself away from listening to my favourite tracks through the ie80s!!

If you are considering ear molds why not go the Custom IEM route then?

If there's one thing that's blindingly obvious about this audio hobby, there is no end to the search for perfection! The combination of Nuforce HDP/Senn.650/ie8/ie80 is an ideal match.I'm not such a young guy,I've put together a collection of 1424 cds.I know,I just spent 12 days uploading them onto a new Macbook! I made up my mind when I became interested in headphones/amps/dacs,I'd get a good system, and most importantly, enjoy the music! I'm certainly going to get the best out of what I have, look at cable upgrades,molds,etc..I've followed lee730's posts with great interest since considering the 80s,it was his enthusiasm for them, and keen observation of the upgrade in sound, that gave me the push to buy them.I'll leave the "fire in the belly" stuff to you younger guys,I'm over the moon with what I have, excellent is good enough for me!!

haha thats why I bought the IE80's - Lee's enthusiasm sort of swung it for me too - plus the fact that I had Senns HD650's and HD800's and I thought if they make cans this good there IEM's should be serious quality too.

I enjoy my IE80's so much that I listen to them mostly now especially at home as no one else can hear my music - I can even go to bed listening to them and the wife cant hear a thing and even better I cant hear her LOL

Also to note - i have dropped them countless times, never used a case, accidentally snagged them - basically giving them a tough time but they just keep on going

Oh and one more thing - i stopped using the silver cable as I just couldnt get the connectors to stay on tightly - buds kept falling off and once I got home and there was a bud missing - luckily I found it in my car - but scared me enough to go back to the original cable even though the SQ was better with the silver - but you get used to it and dont notice if your not swapping out a lot
