If you are experiencing veil or muddiness it's probably because of the still existing mid bass hump.

The fatigue and nasty resonance is because of the 5.3 khz peak, just like the good old IE8.

Just use some EQ.

How to EQ the mid bass hump?

Curious to know what people are driving their IE80s with. What dac/amp are you guys using?

My E17 is serving me well, but it's considered low end and i want to know how these earphones would sound out of a real quality amp.

@DMinor

Depends on what DAP you are using.

The mid bass hump is centered at ~110 Hz and very wide.

For my IE8 I use -3db@110 Hz, Q=0,5 in Rockbox. You can reduce it even more if you want but it can make the sound too thin and cold.

To deal with the 5.3 kHz peak I use -12db@5300 Hz, Q=3,6.

I also hear some resonance at ~ 7000 Hz.

This might be slightly different with the IE80.

Overall, my EQ settings for the IE8 look like this:

Thanks Kaffeemann for the info. I'll try the EQ with rockbox once I receive back my ie80.

Edit: Will the EQ cause distortions to sound?

2nd day of owning a pair now, can someone tell me whether the bass tuning has a noticeable difference? I put one side to highest, one side to lowest, and I can't notice a difference.

I read a few posts and some people say it's only noticeable on specific sources.

I haven't put that at uneven settings but turn them clockwise definitely raises the bass level for me.

It depends on the music you are listening to. Music with heavy sub bass will respond noticeably to the setting adjustments.

Thanks for the impressions Matt. Much appreciated !!

Could you please provide a track on youtube or anything that you can notice a difference?

Playing it out of my iphone at the moment and don't notice a difference with any songs.

They may respond more with usage as well so give them some time and get accustomed to the actual sound. That will make it much easier to pick out these differences. Me personally, I didn't not like the vent control because it just really adds more mid-bass instead of real sub-bass IMO. But on the IE8 which I needed to EQ anyways I put it on max and then EQ down both mid bass and sub bass. This gives you an ever bigger sound stage and very nice reverb to the sound. Seems to open up everything more, even the sound-stage is bigger this way.

Looking at them to replace my EPH100, i saw that they are over the ear which i don't like, is it possible to wear them in a conventional manner with the cables hanging straight fom the ear?

If you cross the drivers from left to right then yes. But I'd say try them over ear before going that route as its quite comfortable and pretty much guarantees you no micro phonics and longevity of your cable. Much more comfortable over ear IMO. With them hanging down they are more distracting, at least I feel this way once I got accustomed to over ears. Will never go back.

Will try to make little review later.

Had completely solved this mid-bas problem on my IE80-s by ISO-Mod (tape-mod) . Check it out

Yes. Digital EQ always adds distortion.
