flac to aiff , wav, or Apple Lossless?

I've been exploring HDTracks, downloading 24/96 flac files to desktop HDTracks manager for play  from Foobar 2000. But, preferring iTunes, I have converted flac files to Apple Lossless using DBpoweramp converter, sending them to iTunes library, thereafter deleting flac files to save computer space. I'm thinking now however that Apple Lossless may not be the most ideal codex to convert to. What say you?

AIFF is too old, WAV too big so I think ALAC is your best choice.

AIFF too old? How has that gotta do with SQ? Plus, AIFF supports Album Art and ID Tags.

One problem I've discovered with Apple Lossless is when flac tunes are  converted to it and are then sent to SD Card for play on my Kenwood CD-Receiver, the receiver does not recognize the Apple Lossless files.

A couple of options.

-Most media players do have a sync option.

In general you can choose a file format to convert to on the fly.

Choose one supported by your receiver and sync this to the SD card

-Try a player like J River Jukebox (free) or J River Media Center.

Native support of FLAC

Sync to a plethora of formats

Excellent interface

Excellent sound quality

Obvious a J River fan boy is talking here

If you want to use iTunes, I would stick with ALAC, and keep your hirez downloads backed up in which ever form you get them.  Other than a few hardware players that won't use ALAC, I don't see any advantage to AIFF files.(which are apples version of WAV files)

I convert all of my high-rez downloads to ALAC and keep the original file. As long as you are primarily an Apple user, I see no drawbacks to doing so.

Thanks all,

My plan will be to convert flac to ALAC and use something like DBpoweramp converter to convert either the flac files, which will be saved on my hard drive, or the ALAC files from iTunes to ACC for my car's receiver.

Nothing to do with SQ, it has to do with its poor compression.

And ALAC supports Album ART and ID Tags as well. Plus lyrics, which AIFF doesn't.

AIFF is uncompressed lossless.

Poor compression, lack of compression, whatever. ALAC is better. Lets move on.

I can see your insistence in condemning AIFF with unfounded reasons.

Yup let's move on no point arguing.

Err, the fact that AIFF is uncompressed is a pretty good reason. There's no reason to use uncompressed lossless if your player supports a compressed lossless format.
