Good simple living room speakers - Page 2

I am thinking of a short writeup soon but wheeling and dealing towards the end of 2011 i had managed to nab a pair of Kenwood floorstanders that cost almost nothing and a cheap Pioneer receiver that is now serving as the TV audio system and boy do these rock! The 12" drivers on those Kenwoods aren't for show either and in movies these generate some of the most visceral bass response from a 2.0 set up i have ever heard! The room shakes and rumbles lol. Think these were made in the 80s and the AVR around 2004? When i auditioned the Kenwoods an elderly gentleman had them mated with a classic Luxman amp ( i was blown away!) and though the Pioneer isn't in the same class for 2 channel SQ it wasn't as bad as i thought! All in all, for the $$ i am stoked! Basement bargains/gems are always lurking in the used audio hardware market L3000.gif

Emotiva Pro has three new active models that are very nice, I also like the Infinity Primus series suggested above.

Parts Express is an easy way to dip your toe into DIY, where the design and parts are preselected and and you just assemble...

Were you planning on going in then out of the tv to an amplifer?  I think that is possible.

Just sold the PS3, so, no, i'm not going to use it to play movies.

I'm finishing assembling an HTPC for them, and i'm planing to play the movies from it. Also, i'm planning to install something like an asus DX or the most  proper for an  HTPC(I have and Xonar STX on my personal computer, but not conected to the TV).

My plan was something like:

audio part:

dedicated stereo CD player + HTPC = source

via RCA cabe conected to an

integrated or receiver (still to decide)

and after that, conect to loudspeakers.

video part:

conect from the pc to the TV directly or over an receiver

Beeing possible to buy it here would be perfect, but if these options are not good, i'm open to discussion.

Also, how the listed equipment fare againts the Audioengine A5  ?

Ok, haven't had the chance to hear the Audioengine, but I did have the chance to hear the JBL ES20 and Studio 180, and, well, I was blew away by the floorstanders.

Haven't decided yet, but the seller @ J&R that showed me the comparison between the 2 didn't have a subwoofer, but even with subwoofer I think that the Studio 180 would be more balanced and fuller sounding than the ES20+sub.

Also he recomended 75W/channel for either the floorstanders and bookshelf, and also his personal pick was on of these:

I'll search and hear a bit more so I can choose with more safety, but i'm leaning twards the floorstanders. It does goes a long way out of my original butget, but waiting a bit more and saving, they do fit in my budget.

so, what do you people think?
