Good simple living room speakers

I was looking for a good pair of speakers for an living room home-theater, in order to replace the TV's builtin speakers.

Would a pair of Audio Engine A5 be a good solution for this kind of setup? (I've read some reviews that used it both on near field like for desktop computer and also for hometheater sound)

The 2 main interesses are movies and music listening. No surround needed nor searched, and sound quality would be the most important feature. So, no need for 5.1 nor 7.1 sets, i'm only looking for 2.0 or at max 2.1 settings, also, no particularly bassy music, so if the A5 or equivalent has an good overall quality, including bass, would be more than welcome.

Today there is only a simple dvd player and an ps3 with the TV, so, other setup sugestions would be most appreciated.

About budget would be something between US$ 250 and US$ 500 max.

Yes, it's quite nice for those purposes. My parents have the A5 in the living room and they use it for TV and movies.

If you want the absolute max for your money, get the following:

Infinity Primus P362:

180$x2

Cheapo AudioSource stereo receiver:

90$

For 450$ you're all set for music and movies. This system will go louder, deeper and clearer than the A5s.

+1 ya decent floor standers are simple and great for living rooms hehe

How big is your listening room?

You'll want to pick speakers suitable for your room. I'm a big fan of floorstanders if you have the room.

Also, give some thought to DIY. Even if you don't have the tools, a local cabinet shop can often built them inexpensively. I ordered the cabinets for my ProAc Response 2.5 clones and they were about $200 plus shipping.

Their living room is about 7m wide and about 4-4.5 m deep.

The couch is about 3m from the wall where is the tv.

Floor standers would be great, but the first thing that comes to my mind is how i'm going to transport them.

Since i'm from Brasil, either the shop ships here(what would be great!) or i'll have to bring it inside my luggage, and i think that 110 cm floor standers wouldn't be exactly easy to fit in.

I haven't discarted them yet, but, bear in mind that i need to have a way to bring them here.

@ Uncle Erik

Do you have a guide on DIY speakers?

I'm Still searching for Vintage, an uncle bought some Vintage Speakers from JBL some time ago + pre-amp+amp from Kenwood for them.

Besides that, what do you people think about these speakers:

If I could get the answer quickly I would be most grateful

Sorry, I haven't visited this thread for quite some time.

I'll give a look at them.

Also, I've found a store here with reasonable prices, mainly on the speakers, so, if anyone could coment on the following, if they are good or not, i'll would be most thankfull:

Speakers(all 8 ohms bookshelf):

1) Klipsch B-20

2) JBL ES 20

3) Polk Audio TSI 200

Integrated:

1) Harman Kardon HK 3390

2) Yamaha R-S300

3) Denon DRA-397

Your movies will be played through a PS3, correct?  I do not believe it has analog outputs for an amplifier.

Were you planning on going in then out of the tv to an amplifer?  I think that is possible.
