Do the 3.5mm to Dual RCA cables degrade sound quality?

Thread Starter

Hello,

If I was to connect a headphone amp that only had a 3.5mm jack to the dual RCA connectors on a sound card, amplifier or whatever will this method cause degraded sound quality as it is a dual rca into single 3.5mm cable?

Would a dual RCA to dual RCA cable be better quality then a 3.5mm > dual RCA cable? (this would not be an option as the amplifier only has 3.5mm jack)

Thanks.

there shouldnt be an degredation of sound.

they type of cable - rca vs 1/8 - shouldnt matter either

I also use the same cable from my soundcard's headphone output to my desktop amp and i haven't noticed any sound degradation..

You'll get very slightly greater crosstalk between L/R channels with the 3.5mm connector, but the crosstalk of your amp might already be worse than the crosstalk contributed by the jack--and this very low amount shouldn't be noticeable anyway.

Shouldn't be a difference, by design most connector types on chassis mounts share common grounds, 1/4", XLR, RCA, 1/8"
