Schiit Lyr - Destroyer of Headphones

Thread Starter

Hey,

I just wanted to put this out there since it always comes up, even on Schiit's website, that the Lyr may damage headphones because of it's power output.

I attached a few different headphones to the Lyr that were low impedance and very sensitive. I tested both by starting at volume completely minimal from both source & amp, followed by source maxed and amp minimal, and both maxed, and well, the headphones did not blow up.

So, any ideas on how to shred some headphones?

Very best, tongue_smile.gif

I think this is where it gets its reputation: http://www.head-fi.org/t/562736/what-causes-this-amp-related

The thread is about the Asgard, but applies to the Lyr as well. Since then, Schiit has included a relay to mitigate the chances of this. I believe there are a couple of Edition 8s that were blown during on/off switching in the Lyr thread as well.
