Velleman K8010 as AKG K1000 amplifier ?

I do not have much experience with  K1000 amplification i just know they need a lot of power !

Does this amplifier have enough power to drive them properly ?

Absolutely. The K-1000 owner's manual calls for 8W of power. This one gives you 65W.

Don't worry about harming the K-1000, either. I occasionally run mine off a 45W amp and they work fine.

And if you do build this, please post some pics in the build gallery. A lot of us would love to see your work. smily_headphones1.gif

I owned PrimaLuna Prologue Two, KT88 based, 40W p.ch. and after 7-9 month I was done with it. My was fully upgraded with best possible NOS GEC KT88, 12AU7 AND 12AX7 Mullards, but even it was great sounding, at some point you realize that it has to much power and very little volume play. If possible, try out first. I would go for SET instead, but which one depends on your budget.

Last night i saw  a thread about someone powering the K1000s with a 80W amplifier,is that possible ? Couldn´t that blow up the drivers ?

There is another Velleman amplifier, this is a 90W one,What do you think of this one ? Is it to much power for just headphones ?

I sure will build one,but i am still not sure which one biggrin.gif

90W shouldn't be a problem. The headphones won't pull more than they need - just like how a lightbulb won't burn out on a 20A circuit. Though be sure to check for DC offset on the amp after you build it. That will harm your headphones.

Are you going to run speakers, or is this just for the K-1000?

If it's just the K-1000, maybe look at the Audio Note 2A3 and 300B kits. I ran mine from an Audio Note 2A3 at a meet and it was incredible.

You might also want to look at the Transcendent Sound kits, too. Rozenblit is a no-nonsense designer and his products sound wonderful.

Sorry about my ignorance but what is the DC offset ?

No speakers just Earspeakers :-)

This will be my K1000 dedicated amp. if it is proper for it of course .

Just a thought re. running headphones off "proper" power amps:

Back in Europe, I have a restored / upgraded Leak Stereo 20 (NOS tubes, Audio Note PIO caps etc.), which puts out about 8-10 WPC. Would this be suitable for powering my HD600s, and if so, do I need to make any changes to the output? I presume I should use the 16 Ohm taps....

Is anyone currently using a Stereo 20 to drive high-impedance headphones?

Or is this discussion purely relevant to K-1000 owners?

If I were you, I would start with the cheap T amp, such as TrendsAudio T10.2 or even their previous model T10.1, give some time and see if you like what you hear. But, if you decide to make a step directly in your budget level, make sure you audition the amp for several good hours, with your own source would be even better, actually, it's a must, imo.

I bought PrimaLuna that was driven by Ayre C-7ex CD player, liked a lot, but like I said, even after fully upgrade of tubes, will cost you lots of cash by the way, I couldn't keep the amp for K1000. Some folks claim that stock tubes are good, but to me they were trash and so poor sounding that I could better stick with T10.1

Synergy in your own rig is everything, mean IC cables, tubes, power cables and even fuses.
