Yes, trees can be very deadly.  When an area has gone through 10 - 12 hours of steady rainfall, the roots can be quite bogged with water.  Then, the wind kicks up and down the trees go - taking out house roofs, power lines, cars or even people.  There was a lady walking in the county I live in and suffered a broken leg yesterday when a tree fell.  It could have been worse, she could have been # 22.

I think each state provided plenty of notice and communication to the residents of each state to ask them to just stay home.  Instead, people opted to avoid the suggestion and, unfortunately, ended up being victims of Irene.  Granted, some of the deaths were from trees falling on homes or apartments, so in those events, staying home worked against them.

We were out early in the day and before the storm moved through are area.  It was mostly just light rain when we were out, but we could see how a lot of people did take notice of the advisory as most people were not out and about.  Most places where restaurants were located were quite barren.  About the only place with activity was the local grocery store.

Considering how many people live on the eastern seaboard it could have been much worse. Think positively about the outcome of this storm.
