How much of a step up are the Mad Dogs in terms of picking out details if anyone has the Pro 900 and MDs for comparisons?

I was looking into the Signature DJ, but the one on the Sale Forum seems to have already been sold. I generally tend to like the powerful bass of the Ultrasone line, but don't require it since I'll be pairing it with a FiiO Mont Blanc or E17 (as soon as I decide which to order) that have EQ/bass boosts. I thought I'd ask other people with Ultrasones for suggestions because we probably have similar sound signature tastes already.

The move from Pro900 to Mad Dogs will disappoint you on the bass side if you love the Pro900 bass. No amount of EQ will make up the difference, so just FYI. I had a Mad Dog, own a Pro900 and Edition 8 in the Ultrasone line and they are quite a difference vs the MD.

PM a user hawk1410 - he has a pair of Sig DJ for sale for months and as of two weeks ago were still up for sale for $770. I came close to buying them a couple times but went Ed 8 instead.

I had the PRO 900 for some time together with the PRO 2900. The PRO 900 bass is mighty, but also undamped, like a bass drum that is a little loose. The PRO 2900 has less impact, but is better better damped i.e. more exact. Then I got the SIG PRO. It's bass is more like the PRO 2900 but even better controllrolled. Another step up the ladder. Then came the SIG DJ. Bass is top notch quality like the SIG PRO but has the PRO 900 quantity. I fear you have no choice, but the SIG DJ. It is worth every Euro/ Dollar for me.

I agree. The Sig DJ is the logical upgrade to the Pro 900 and it's a mighty one. There's is no aspect where it'll be a downgrade.

2900 is far superior to the 900 and although the sig pro was a significant upgrade to the 2900 I didn't much care for it. I felt the bass had no depth at all and was almost nonexistent.

I would love to demo a pair of sig dj's. they're probably more my style

When I had both the PRO 900 and the PRO 2900, I experimented a little with interchanging each others pads. And guess what:

the pads make most of the sound difference. The Pro 900 lost a lot of it's boominess but also got more mids and simply got more civilized  like the PRO 2900. The PRO 2900 in contrary lost its good manners and begun to go wild. In the end they share 99% of the parts only that one is open and the other one is closed. The PRO 900 pads are deeper the PRO 2900 pads are more shallow.

You should hear how good the Pro900 sounds with Alpha pads (from Mr Speakers) grafted on the speed switch bases................

Just not a very popular headphone for the price point, I'd rather grab the Takstar Pro 80 or Sony MDR-7506 for the same money.

IDK know .... I own the zx700 and used to own the v6 , the zx700 basically is very similar to the v6 and 7506 , I don't know what you mean by popular ?
The ultrasone offers much more clarity and resolution than the v6 and zx700's and is having a much better and tighter bass response I am not using the word accentuated  ....... the Ultrasone's have a withdrawn section up top but I prefer this signature over the v6/7506 or the zx700's for home use  ..... don't take this the wrong way :D

Hey there Ultrasone fans!

If anybody is interested, I'm selling my HFI-2400 (http://www.head-fi.org/t/683202/ultrasone-hfi-2400-with-coiled-neutrik-cable-and-v-moda-cable). Really nice headphone, selling due to upgrading the Denon D2000 since I need a sealed headphone for my home use (room-mates).

i have tested it for a week ans really like his sound so i want to know if there is a model in the classic collection who have the same kind of sound

The Signature Pro is very special beneath the other Ultrasones. I do not know any but the Signature Dj, that comes even close. For me it is absolutely wort its money. But it should not be a fault to shoot a used one. That is what I did. After purchasing the Sig Pro I simply had to sell the Pro 900 and the Pro 2900 that I owned those days.

+1 :D . The only Ultrasone that sounds close from sig pro is the edition9 . That said, it's easier to find a Sig pro at a good price.
