The speakers were Tannoy Westminster Royal se and the amp used along with the K-01 was the Esoteric A100.
I only listened to one CD which was Jean Michel Jarre's " Oxygene ".
The reason I'm mentioning this is because the music was so life like, if someone had said Jean was in the room playing, I'd have believed them.
IMO, a headphone system will never come close to a life like sound that a good speaker system can get close to, but since using the PH's with my BHSE, my 009's have given me the closest to life like sound I've heard from a headphone system.
Before getting the PH tubes, and listening to headphones and speakers, it wasn't often I got over excited with what I was hearing, but since listening to my 009 / BHSE / K-01 using the PH 's, there's been times when I've felt shivers going up my spine.
We all have our favourite headphone combo's, but IMO anyone that's serious about headphone listening, need to at least have a listen to the 009 / BHSE while using the PH tubes.

P.S. I guess a good source might also help with the SQ.

I know exactly what you mean about the shivers. My heart actually starts racing at times when listening to good recorded CD's.

Your right, I forgot you also have driver tubes...

It's the magic Stax !

When I was using SED tubes with my BHSE, I was never 100% happy with the SQ I was getting from my 009's, however since using the PH tubes I couldn't be happier.
I'm so happy that I'm not bothered about hearing any other headphone system.
I have the LCD-XC / GS-Xmk2 which I'll still be listening to, but my 009 / BHSE will be getting most of my listening time.

P.S. MSB DAC 's will probably offer better SQ than the K-01, but the price they're asking for the top ones, there's no way I can afford them, I also don't believe any of the lesser expensive models will sound any better than the K-01, and to end with, my K-01 is a SACD + DAC to which I use both.

I am very happy for you to have found good tubes for your BHSE for optimal synergy with the 009. :)

If not, my apologies for the error in translation: read: "goose bumps" and not  "chair of chicken" ;)

Just noticed that Woo Audio is now offering the Psvane EL34PH as an upgrade tube to their WES amp ($480 w/ 1yr warranty).

Woo Audio probably found out just how good ( IMO ) the Psvane EL34PH tubes are.

I believe so. I think they use to have the 6CA7 Treasures as their upgrade tube. So what does that tell you.

It also mentions they source the tubes from the manufacture directly.

I'm pretty sure the tubes that are going for cheap on EBAY are the ones that don't meet the distributors specs. These are suppose to be for local distribution in China at a lower price to the consumer (GF wrote about it on their website under QC Control if you go to the tubes page). It only mentions Shuguang, but I'm guessing Psvane follows the same procedure. This is probably why Woo Audio can offer 12 months warranty, because the tubes would be within a certain specification.

Because I've only used and heard the PH tubes with my BHSE, and found ( for me ) a big improvement in the SQ, I obviously don't know whether there'll be the same improvement using them with any other amp.

Is there any news on the SR-011? I'm getting close to buying the SR-009, but would wait if there is a new model coming this year.

You're probably fine for another 6-10 years, if it ever comes wink.gif.

...but, as far as I know, Justin didn't yet. Last I noticed, he only submitted a $299 Shuguang Treasure option for the BHSE. But this was some time ago: maybe it's different now. Any recent information on this topic (Psvane EL34PH option for the BHSE)?

right now i'm not interested in offering tube options WITH warranty. because of this i'm going to cap the number of BHSEs that i will sell with the Shuguang Treasure tubes at 10. i will then wait 1 year to see how it works out.

Thank you for this fast answer Justin. May I remind you that, in a post sent a few months ago, I specified the $299 Shuguang Treasure option in my BHSE order?

So I hope I will be one of the 10 ST testers.

Best regards.

I'm getting close to purchasing my SR-009s. I have a pair of Musical Fidelity M-250s in my closet. They are very quiet 250 watt mono-blocks. Would it be ok to use them with the Woo Wee to power the SR-009s until I buy a dedicated amp? (The wait for the BHSE is 6-8 months.)

Here are the specs:

Output voltage, RMS 45 Volts 20Hz to 20kHz peak 127 Volts
Power output 250 Watts into 8 Ohms (24dBW) 450 Watts into 4 Ohms
Peak-to-peak output current 72 Amps
Damping factor 180
Output devices per channel 6
Total Harmonic Distortion + noise 0.006% at 1kHz up to 90% power, into 4 or 8 Ohms
Intermodulation distortion 0.004% at 12.5 Watts into 8 Ohms
Frequency response 20Hz to 20kHz ±0dB
10Hz to 100kHz +0 / -1.5dB
Audio gain 30dB (31.5 times) nominal
Input impedance 31K Ohm
Input sensitivity for full power output into 8 Ohms 1.42 Volts
Signal / noise ratio, reference full power output > 115dB “A”- weighted
