So I bought a 2011 Mac Mini recently, its the $800 model and I had been using my old Nuforce Udac with it that was great with my old Dell Inspiron 1500. Today I was listening and noticed that the low end on the Udac isn't really there and neither are some of the mids (I'm not great at picking apart sound, but thats my diagnosis). So I plugged my headphones (currently Koss Portapros (everything better is broken atm)) into the headphone out and got a much fuller sound than the udac! I was surprised and wanted to make sure I wasn't tricking myself so I went back and forth and the results were the same. Anyone else have similar results with udacs or apple headphone outs?
I'm currently listening to Dabrye's Two/Three from the Mac>Cmoy amp>Porta pros and it sounds great :).
EDIT:
I just tried this with my Audio-Technica ESW9's which I thought had been blown out and they sound amazing! I had been using the Technica's with the Udac and cranking up the low end EQ on my PC and on my Rockbox'd Sansa Fuze and it was the making crazy distortion on the bass. I guess it really goes to show that source is really important.
