Foobar2000 with WASAPI setting bit rate

Thread Starter

I recently switch from some other player to FB2K and trying to make myself understand the settings more.

I have some question about WASAPI component setting (well, more like a "output" tab setting).

In the output format section, I have the choice of 8-32bit.  The default is 16-bit.

I have a couple of 24-bit/96kHz downloads.

In order to take advantage of the 24/96 recording I switch this to 24-bit setting.

My question is, if I keep it that way when it finished playing the 24-bit album, and start playing normal 16-bit files, what will happen?  It has no bad effect? or will it play as normal 16-bit when the file is not up to 24-bit? or do I have to switch it back and forth manually every time I play different format files?

Thanks.

If your DAC accepts 24 bit input, use 24.

When you play 16 bit recordings, 8 zero bits will be padded to the 16 to obtain 24 bits with zero impact on sound quality.
