New to here and want an entry headphone

Thread Starter

Hi everyone,

I want to buy an entry level headphone about $100, I have looked a lot and learn a lot in last two weeks, but I also don't know which one to buy. So I ask for help here.

I use it to listen music, usually pop and rock, also like new age and classic. I play games, but I just need to listen the music and voice of games.

I'd like to buy a closed one, because my laptop is very noise on gaming(Alienware m14x), but I don't want a gaming headphone.

Now I'm considering sennheiser hd 448, sennheiser hd 515 and akg k450, any other better idea?

Thank you all!

PS. Sorry for my terrible written English

Save up for some ATH-M50's

they will meet all your requirements and be good for gaming.

Grado Sr80i next, but not so good for gaming or pop

JVC HARX900 are next. Good for gaming and some music, but need a good source if you don't already have a amp.

Don't buy a amp! It's a waste of money if it's your first headphone to buy a amp for them.

I found ATH-M50's on Amazon for $159, I think that's a bit more.

And I don't want to buy a amp, at least now.

Sometimes you can find them for about $130

There was just a thread here that the guy bought them for $88

ATH-A900 on amazon for $113. Good for music and gaming.

The AD900 are great for gaming but are good for classical. There's not much bass compared to the A900

Just don't buy the HD 515. It's a shocker in all respects.

Superlux HD-668B, semi-open, leaks very little

Superlux HD-669 closed

Both are decent and well under your budget.

Hey you can actually find the ATH-M50s for $109 on http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/ATH-M50 . Just use the coupon =). That being said, I have heard that the Ultrasone HFI-580 outperforming the M50s in almost every aspect, and its just a bit more at $127 on Amazon. I'm actually looking to get one myself.

Thank you for your info. But I'm living China, so maybe I can't buy the gear on a US website.

I found ATH-M50s doesn't release in China and the other two ones are also more expensive.

If I will buy the headphone from US, I'll have less budget because of the delivering fee.

In my experience, gaming with the ATH-M50s was horrible.....

It gets to bloated and all

Alessandro's, Grado's, M50's, ATH X00, Shure's and Superlux's.

Goodluck :)

Highly recommend the MS1's. Great for rock (especially classic rock). Unless your laptop fans are loudspeakers that blast music, you will not be bothered by them if you listen at a reasonable volume. Keep in mind your family/room mates will hear your music since they are open. M50's are definately an all around pair of headphones, but they don't do classic rock like the grado's. They will be better for pop though (IMO). They're right up your price range @ $99
