DAC/Amp combo

Thread Starter

I've been digging around for a DAC or DAC/amp combo to buy, preferably the latter choice. I'd say that my budget is up to $500, so there's a lot of DACs I've been looking at.

My only concern is that I'd like to get a DAC that would go along with speakers when I get new equipment in the future, which is why I'd rather get a DAC/amp combo. So for that option, I've only been able to find the Yulong D100 and the Nuforce HDP, which both seem to be really liked here at Head-Fi.

Are there any other DAC/Amp combos out there worth looking at?

Google "audiophile dac amp" gives 2 million hits.  Here is a strange one, looks like a flashlight. http://www.centrance.com/products/dacport/

but has a 24bit dac and class-A amp. Has 10ohm impedance and is said to be portable.

I think with a combo you can save money but have fewer options.  A modular system would be more flexible.

Click on "Head Gear" at the top of the page. There's a considerable listing of various types of gear along with reviews there you'll likely find helpful.
