Beyer DT880 - touching earlobe. Will new pads fix it?

Hi guys,

I've recently acquired some older (pre-05) DT880s, and I'm falling in love with their sound.

The only downside is that my ears (mainly left) are being pressed reasonably hard by the foam covering the driver. I'm wondering whether it's the pads - they are clearly quite old, as they are a little yellow, and In some places they're only around 1cm deep - or whether it's simply the DT880.

My ears aren't too big - I don't have any comfort issues with cans like the Senn 580 or Grados with comfies (bowls give me the same pain as these 880s after a couple of hours though).

I have two questions for DT880 familiars:

  1. Are new pads significantly deeper (i.e. create a bigger ear cavity), or is this going to be a problem with the 880 for me?
  2. Is there a way to beef the current pads up to see if they still cause discomfort - by taping or stretching or somesuch?

And for all - any ideas on where I can get a set of new pads with non-exorbitant delivery prices to New Zealand?

Sorry about the comfort problems.

Haven't tried those older DT880's, but the newer ones have the same problem for me too. The foam covering the driver is "domed" shaped, and it makes it uncomfortable to wear. Unfortunately, the DT990 doesn't have that problem due to it's foam being flat. The bad part about that is I liked the DT880 a whole lot more, but could stand the comfort issues.

So, I'm not sure if new earpads will fix it or not.
