Unamped headphones with the widest soundstage

- Budget $250

- Inputs will be onboard sound for PC, MP3 player, or hooked straight up to the audio jack of a TV set (please stick to these parameters and don't recommend me get an amp or sound card or whatever...Yes, it's a weird situation, I know...)

- I want something that will be versatile enough for all of those inputs and be able to project the widest soundstage possible

From my research, it looks like it's between the Audio Technica ATH-AD900 and the Ultrasone HFI 2400, although I couldn't really find any reviews of the HFI 2400 unamped.  Any insight?  Feel free to suggest any other headphones, as well.

HFI 2400 needs a amp

Get the AD900 and do the foam mod

Thanks.  Any more suggestions?

HFI2400, DT880, DT990, AD900, SRH940 and PS500.

Unamped AD900 would be decent, also JVC RX700 is impressive.

Disregarding sound quality, comfort, etc. which phone has the largest soundstage of them all (amped and then unamped)?

Soundstage wise I would say AD900 is larger than the likes of DT880, HD600 but I prefer the latter for their positioning. AKG K701 would probably win both amped and unamped for largest soundstage, however I am not a fan even when amped.

Thanks! But from your earlier post the RX700 is closed where as the RX900 is semi open and been verified to have a larger soundstage. For $58 vs. $33 most think the rx900 is worth it upgrade and a steal in price as well (both are a steal though).

Well the RX700 is similar to the Denon D2000s, the soundstage is pretty good for a closed phone. The sound in general is very good for the low price. RX900 is said to have better soundstage but I haven't heard it, I remember reading RX700 for music and RX900 for gaming.

Soundstage on the Denon AH-D1100 is amazing.
