Xonar DG, front panel amp

Hey again Head-Fi!

I may be phrasing things wrong, so forgive me for my newness...

I will be buying the Xonar DG (Nice price and a headphone amp).

If I want to utilize the amp but connect my headphones to the front panel, are there any connections I need to make? The DG has port recognizing features or something, would I just have to set the output as the front port? I've never installed a sound card before. Are there any cables I need to plug in to the sound card? Thanks in advance.

If I install the sound card and plug something into the front panel will the sound card handle the audio (assuming I disable integrated sound)?

Most cases come with 3.5mm mini jack port on the front of the case to plug headphones into.

When you install the Xonar DG, you will need to plug the audio cable (marked AC97 or HD audio) to the Xonar card.

The Xonar DG will come with simple directions showing were on the card to plug in the audio cable.

In the Xonar DG control panel, you will have to set it to "FP Headphone" to use the front panel mini jack for headphones.

If you plug your headphones directly into the back panel of the Xonar DG

you will need to set the control panel to "headphone".
