Balanced headphone extension question

I have a pair that I don't use anymore, can I use it as a balanced interconnect?

Perhaps.

Typically, headphone cables don't use a separate shield which is connected to XLR pin 1, so wouldn't have any shielding, which in my opinion isn't such a bad thing. However you can end up with some noise issues if you use balanced cables that don't connect the XLR pin 1's together. Wouldn't hurt to give it a try.

It is only 2 feet long, noise probably will not be an issue.  I will keep it away from power cable.

Yeah, I'm guilty of using a pic of an XLR extension as a pic of XLR interconnects....since for all intents and purposes they look the same.  It may or may not be shielded - you could use a multimeter to connect pin 1 on each side and see if there's continuity.
