mixing tubes to compare sound?

Got a hifiman ef2a and ordered some better tubes, Mullard M8100's, is it possible to mix the tubes? say one mullard tube and one of the cheap crappy chinese tubes to compare the quality?

i'm assuming with 2 tubes, 1 tube drives left channel and the other right channel, am i right?

just thinking of a way of A/B ing the tubes without having to power off and swap them out, i've got a poor memory so i'll forget what one sounds like when i've messed about putting the others in biggrin.gif

Heya,

Do you really think you'll hear a distinct enough difference while listening to two differently powered channels at the same time? Your brain will do what it can to make them synch. You won't be able to really compare them at the minute level of tube swapping differences.

If your memory is crap, take notes while listening. Rate the highs, mids, bass 1 out of 10 over and over. Do it a few times after switching back and forth until you see some significant data. Otherwise, just listen to tubes and see if you like the sound better or not.

Very best,
