I just today got the BeyerDynamic DT-250 velour pads to mod my Sony MDR-V6s, which I've had for about three weeks. In that time I've been satisfied with them in every respect, sound quality included. But once I got these pads and (with a surprising amount of difficulty) replaced the stock pleather ones, I immediately noticed a different sound. I've been listening for hours now -- to rock, jazz, classical, acoustic/vocal, dance, the entire spectrum -- and everything seems better. Vocals seem to stand out further, making what I was getting before seem muted. The bass response, I could swear, is tight and controlled but very strong. The thing is, I've read many, many threads about the V6s, and many about the Beyer mod as well, but I don't recall any mention of change in sound. They're an improvement when it comes to comfort, and also lend the phones a little heft and a better look, but do they improve its (recently much-maligned) performance? I'm running them unamped from a 3G iPod. Also, I ripped the small piece of gray from from the Sony pads and covered the drivers with it before replacing the pads with the Beyers, which I believe was recommended. Any thoughts?

The only sonic variation I experienced was negative - when walking, the extra foam would move and slide against my glasses, making a slight squeaking noise. Otherwise didn't notice anything else.

You could be right, you could be wrong. No one will know for sure until someone has a pair of stock pad V6s and Beyer pad V6s and compares them extensively side by side. I personally would be very appreciative of such a comparison (I use the Beyer pads).

Yeah, I'd guess that keeping the grey foam on the phones is a must...
