i'm looking for the best separate headphone amp and dac for my sennheiser hd 650 in the $600-750 range i was thinking about a creek amp and nuforce dac i am new and might be way off it is for use with my computer files all suggestions are greatly appreciated

thanks Steven

Why do you need them to be separate?

The Yulong D100 or Matrix Quattro (standalone version with DAC, not optional external amp) will both cover amp and DAC. If you need separate components, look for an amp to pair with the Cambridge DacMagic, or just use the D100 as a DAC and find a different amp.

what about the pico usb dac/amp would that be a good match for sennheiser hd 650?

I am running a zero amp/dac optical to a SACD Sony player to Senn's 580's.

I am very happy with this setup. The volume button does not go past the 7-9 position.

I plan on using my Nuforce Icon HDP with the Senns 600s I just ordered.

It's a great unit (a bit bright though), serves its purpose well (and for what I want to use it) and seems to drive most headphones out there. Review:

Right now I have a cheap Audio-Technica turntable connected via RCA, cheapo DVD player (serving as CD player for now) connected through Coaxial and my computer through USB. RCA out is connected to my powered monitors. Everything sounds quite good and does its job well as DAC. You could probably look into this one also if you want an "all-in-one" unit.

Thanks.

If someone can re-terminate your headphones with a 4-pin XLR, you may as well get an NFB-10.  I find the wide soundstage works very well for rock, bringing the guitar playing out very clearly.

you lost me there as this is all new to me,so the sennheiser hd 650 won't work with this amp as is? sounds like a bit of a hassle otherwise it is a nice amp
