Connecting New Monitors

I was wondering if you guys could help me out with a quick recommendation.

I just ordered a Little Dot DAC_1 to replace the DAC in my current headphone set up (Macbook Pro - TOSlink - Zero DAC - Little Dot MKIV headphone amp / preamp - Sennheiser HD650 -- sounds amazing, by the way).

Since I have a pair of Yamaha HS50M active studio monitors that in the past I've used solely with a keyboard, I thought I'd try to integrate them with my new headphone set up if at all possible, leading me to my dilemma: would it be a better idea to connect the monitors directly from the Little Dot DAC's balanced outputs (XLR's), or to connect them via the Little Dot MKIV's RCA outputs (using an RCA - XLR cable to plug into the monitors) in regards to sound quality? Although I have next to no experience connecting speakers, I understand that active monitors don't require pre-amps (which is what I'd be using the Little Dot MKIV for), but that they're not necessarily detrimental to the system. Plus, connecting directly to the MKIV would provide a nice volume control knob, rather than the need to reach behind both monitors to change the volume.

Thanks for the help!

PS: Great community you've got here - although this is my first post I've been perusing the site for a long time.

Just to clarify: my two options are:

Macbook Pro - TOSlink - Little Dot DAC_1 - XLR - Yamaha hs50m's

Macbook Pro - TOSlink - Little Dot DAC_1 - RCA - Little Dot MKIV - RCA / XLR - Yamaha hs50m's

Thanks!
