Best headphones for the Cowon J3 (<500$)

As the title says, i'm looking for a great pair of headphones, solely used with my (also great) Cowon J3 Mp3-player. I'm not planning to use an amp, so impedance must be low. I like bass and a warm sound. Thay have to be closed. They have to isolate the sound (outside to inside and inside to outside). Sound quality is far more important for me as design or portability. I can go up to $500 or even $550. Please make my decision easier :)

Denon AH-D 5000 no amping needed. Bulky with a long cable but it just fits J3 like a hand in glove.

I love those headphones, but it's a little too pricy. My max price is 400 euros = 577,32 dollar :)

Not up for IEM's?

I'm doing it the opposite way, I recently got some SM3 v2's and now I'm trying to find the best MP3 players I can, I got a new iPod classic for Xmas from my wife but unless I'm playing lossless I find the sound quality pretty rough indeed, I don't understand how some people say they can't tell the difference between 320kbps and lossless, it's absolutely night and day for me now, but that may be down to the SM3's.

They really are very nice indeed.

Nope, no IEM's. I love the warm sound full size headphones can give. And I don't like to spend more money for portability when portability is no issue.

I'm using my HD25's with my j3 unamped atm and it gets the job done.

I also used the sm3's v2's with my j3 unamped (they dont really need a amp) and they sound awesome :)

A2000X is a bit over your budget, but with incredible sound quality.  No amp needed.  Also, consider the SRH940.

ES10, Z1000, Pro900, SRH940, ESW10 and W5000.

I don't understand why you make suggestions for headphones to this guy without even asking what kind of music he likes to listen to....

Also i don't understand how you suggest akg K701 to somebody who likes bass and isolation...eek.gif

For him to look up and see which of these will be to his tastes.

duh

So i guess it is better for him to read lots of useless pages than narrowing down his target cans by simply asking what is his preference music..confused.gif

Beats me...

You are creating a useless page, what are you complaining about?  People shouldn't bother using the search function in order narrow down their list(s) of considerations, right?

Yeah maybe they should use the search function..

Especially if they want to avoid guys like you who recommend them K701 and Pro 2900 for a closed headphone that isolates and does bass well..

My music goes from electro (drum and bass, dubstep, techno,...) to pop, rock, alternative... A pretty wide range. And yes I only want closed headphones, plse :)

The headphones I consider are: Denon ah-d5000, ultrasone pro 900 and shure SRH940. Those are all closed ones and within my price range (if I'm lucky, I can get the Denon's for 550$). Which of the following should I get if sound quality, bass, warmth and a good combination with my J3, unamped, is the most important thing? Or maybe yet other suggestions?
