Costco is now selling the Sansa Clip Zip (8 GB) for $45 ($10 instant rebate) if anyone's looking to buy one.

Hi guys, could someone please briefly describe the SQ of the Zip on a flat EQ. I personally would prefer a neutral and natural sound from the player and let the phones I own to show it's intended sound signature. Thanks and hopefully someone can chip in with some info.

 

 

It's flat, linear, and neutral - like any other non-broken device.

I posted about problems I was having with my Clip a couple pages back, and chiming in for an update. I received my new SD card today. Everything works perfectly in Rockbox, the same problem still persists in stock fw though. Fine for me though, I'll just stick with Rockbox :D. Unfortunately it won't be getting much use until I get my customs since I sold off all of my IEM's for them haha.

Hi dfkt, thanks for chipping in. Appreciate that. Anyway, would also like to know whether the Zip have a clean and coherence sound?

exactly, unless you pay the real big money for oversized, difficult to navigate, low storage,  players with colored sound ;-)

bye the way, is there an estimate on the stable rockbox build?

As far as I am concerned it is stable now.....especially now that the USB support is complete and you no longer have to ever see the Sansa firmware.

Rockbox 3.11 'stable' is supposed to be released in the next few days - I guess that one will include AMS USB support too.

as i guess you should receive a lot o PM and i dont want to take your time uselessly ,i have just a little doubt ,cause ,for the first time i will receive a sansa clip+ and a clip zip,brought from amazon.finally

the question is that i downloaded the .zip rockboxed patch from dftk  for the clip zip

i have been reading and downloading the zip rockbox manual ,and researching a lot and enough,but i just wish to someone confirm this simple,yet essencial information.

so,just to be sure to avoid irreversibly damage my new (and only) mp3 player,i just need to replace the containing folder with the new downloaded one?

Hi guys, just got my Zip couple hours earlier today and have been playing it thru a pair of FTX90 on normal EQ after loading some 320kpbs mp3 file.

But there's a problem I'm facing with it's playback and may need some advice here. When a track ends a loud "sss" sound occurs before it skip to the next track. Anyone faces this problem or has a resolution to this issue. It doesn't happen on every track but at interval of a few track. Could I have gotten a lemon? 

On a side note, I really like the sound I'm hearing and very much what I'm looking for at such a low price. Neutral, linear and yet stays coherence and musical. Would like it to be a little more transparency and clarity but really can't ask for much more at this price point.

You need to update the firmware. That track change sound was addressed in a firmware update a while back....nothing to worry about.
